The death of a lobbyist in a Capitol Hill garage fire last month has been ruled accidental by the D.C. medical examiner's office, which said Friday that 37-year-old Ashley Turton died from burns and inhaling "products of combustion."

An autopsy also found that "acute alcohol intoxication" contributed to her death, the office said.

"acute" alcohol intoxication occurs when a person consumes a large amount of alcohol "very quickly, in a short time."

So ... this is the definition on "accident". At 5am, leaving for work, this Mom of three intentionally consumes so much of this type of flammable alcohol as to induce acute alcohol intoxication? I don't buy it.

This whole thing stinks to high Heaven. IMHO, this alcohol was poured down her throat and she was burned to death in the car, and not by herself.

Not only that, but most of the stuff you buy these days comes pre-mixed with water.

Do BMW's use some other type of antifreeze, different from other vehicles? Something more flammable?

If she had crashed into a tree, drunk, no one would blink an eye. It's the whole backing up in the garage, the radiator gets punctured, and the headlights set the antifreeze on fire, that makes most of us go, really?

There is also the fact that she was supposedly leaving for the airport. With acute alcohol intoxication? Most people who drink when they fly at least wait until they get to the airport to start drinking. I find it implausible that she would have been drinking heavily the night before and still be able to get herself up and out the door at 5 am with that much alcohol in her blood. I also find it implausible that she could have done so quietly enough that her husband was not aware of it, nor that she was in the vehicle when he was told there was a fire.

There are all kinds of things I suspect that are not being told here, and I find the timing very interesting. Was she about to get a large bonus for facilitating the buyout of her company by Duke Power (a NC-based company; she was from NC) and perhaps there was a disagreement as to the disposition of the bonus? Was there a boyfriend/girlfriend involved somewhere? Were there financial difficulties and a large life insurance policy? Lots of possibilities, few answers!

Recall the original report of her husband being in the house and aware that she had left early for a big day at the office. Was she coming or going?

It always struck me as odd that the husband didn’t hear or smell anything when loud popping noises woke neighbors, who called the police, but the husband hasn’t been heard from in the media at all that I’m aware.

As Columbo would say: “Just one more thing...Are you the same people who investigated Vince Foster’s death?”

“Authorities have said they think Turton was striken by a medical problem or lost consciousness for some other reason as she backed up the inclined driveway.”

Boy are they trying to sell this. Now we have an INCLINED DRIVEWAY???

Would someone please post a picture again of that highly dangerous and hard to navigate inclined driveway? /s

“And isn’t it interesting that she drove all the way home that drunk without incident, only to crash and burn in her own garage.”

Remember Hitchcock’s North by Northwest? The bad guys wanted Cary Grant’s character to appear to have driven off a dangerous road while drunk. They simply held him and poured liquor down his throat. Having been intubeated, I can tell you it takes only a few seconds to put a tube down your throat and then there’d be no way to resist. The perps would then have all the time in the world to make sure the scene reflected what they wanted it to reflect.

Now, having stated this, if you want to prove someone (individual) committed a murder you have to show they had means, motive, opportunity. We have everything but a suspect and a motive. So, conspiracy theorists, who is the suspect and what’s his motive? It can’t be that she’s seen the actual birth certificate. Us crackpot birthers have been discredited to the point that even when it shows up, it won’t matter.

Who did the deed? It’s too clean for a typical Chicago style hit. (You can spot them, they use an extra thick crust on the concrete shoes, called locally, deep barrel overshoes.) It would be downright foolish to use the CIA, as whoever does it would make a video and later write a best selling book. You can picture them testifying in front of Congress wearing a crisp military uniform and saying things like; “Obama loves my @ss.”

It could be a subcontractor. Do you think they issued a Request For Proposals? More importantly, did they go with the low bidder?

The radiator fluid for this car is probably a pre-mix like mine.

The big question is why did the husband say all were accounted for in the house. He could see the BMW burning. He also said she was leaving early to catch a flight to Progress Energy in NC. I found a flight that left at 640. Her office mate said he expected her in early before she left. Husband did not call in fire. Husband did not tell fireman she was in the car in early report they were surprised to find body. If you watch the video you see the fireman are in no rush and no one is screaming my wife is in the car.

Police call homicide and fireman call ATF. Story dies for 30 days, nothing reported. Thursday ATF says coolant and headlights caused fire and police say she was passed out with acute alcohol symptoms. Ok did she come home? Did she wake up,shower ,pack, start the car then pass out?

How can any husband watch his wife burn up and ot be going ape s it.

Since it says she died from both smoke inhalation and burns, I only hope that she was drunk enough not to realize what was happening to her.

Inhalation of smoke, or fumes such as carbon monoxide, can overtake someone unaware. Burning to death, on the other hand, is about as horrible a way to go as there is, and I would not wish that on anyone.

Investigators think Turton was backing out of the garage when the BMW rolled forward and struck a work bench ...

...Authorities have said they think Turton was striken by a medical problem or lost consciousness for some other reason as she backed up the inclined driveway....

... "acute" alcohol intoxication occurs when a person consumes a large amount of alcohol "very quickly, in a short time."

Let me see if I got this straight:
Beore going to work, she drank large amounts of alcohol quickly. Got in her SUV, was backing out the garage, backing up the driveway, rolling forward striking the work bench?

Cool, she has a SUV that can do somersaults.

Overnight another press release. Interesting, huh? They really want this story ‘gone’ don’t they?

We don’t know what her lifestyle was ‘in the moment’. I agree with your take on it. Perhaps she and her husband were having some problems and she was out cavorting until the early hours of the morning.

I’m not saying that was the case folks. It’s only a plausible explanation. This seems rather strange, because she seems to have been a real go-getter. Could she have been performing well at work, coming in at 5:00 am? I tend to doubt it. I don’t get any sense of this in the overall coverage of the incident and her history either.

If she was coming out of the home to go to work, the only thing that makes sense to me is an incendiary device affixed to the car, perhaps under the seat.

I’ve been in several accidents involving front end damage on my vehicles. None of them involved a fire.

It takes quite a bit to cause a fire when there’s front end damage.

... there are not to many people that “start” the day with “”acute” alcohol intoxication”......No way!

Umm, in my college years, I did. And I know at least 2 people that probably started today that way.

Aside from that, I *do* get the feeling there's a whitewash going on.

Yeah, and though completely inebriated at 5:00a, she got ready for work, negotiated the outside stairs, opened the garage door, started the car, proceeded to back up ... only then passing out “drunk” while the car rolled FORWARD into the workbench which started the fatal fire.

Happens every day ...

BTW, was it reported if she made any cell phone calls that morning? Seems logical since such a big deal was going down.

I don’t think BMW has anything to worry about. It wasn’t the vehicle (apparently so well designed it can go forward in reverse and twist itself into odd angles and makes flat driveways “incline.”)
