LAYTON -- The shoplifter smashed Gabriel Stewart up against a wall. It didn't take him long to realize that pressure against his lower back was from a loaded gun held by a desperate man who didn't want to go to jail.
The gunman had a firm grip on Stewart's shoulder, telling him and three of his Walmart co-workers, "Don't make me do this."
"Absolutely, time stopped," Stewart told KSL News. "I didn't know what to do."
Instantly, Shawn Ray and Justin Richins kicked into gear, spinning the gunman around. Lori Poulsen ripped the gun away and secured it. They all held onto the man until police arrived minutes later.
The four Layton Walmart employees felt it was mission accomplished. Police officers told them they had done everything right.
But a week later, all four were fired from their jobs. Walmart said their actions had violated company policy and put their fellow workers and shoppers at risk.

Blame our legal system... it is far too easy for criminals to sue people who defend themselves.
Walmart needs to re-think it’s policies. Absolutes as policy never work. Ask the schools about molded plastic toy soldiers with guns.
At some point Sprawl-mart will have its employees so scared to do anything that the criminals will essentially have free roam of the store. With the secure knowledge that any attempt by an employee to stop them will be met with said employee losing their job...

Launch a boycott against that store. Pickets, protests, the whole shebang.
Those fools should have let the crazed gunman open fire! What the h*ll were they thinking!

I will blame our legal system. For the untenable position it put WalMart in. I’m sure if WalMart had not fired these brave employees (who did not deserve to be fired) there would be all sorts of legal issues to contend with their insurance.
The second that man pulled a gun - those employees were toast.
Sad.
For the sake of appearances, they should sue the snot out of WalMart. WalMart should pay out of court. Everyone goes away happy.
This will make not want to shop at walmart...idiot management better wake up.

Far better to be fired from Wall Mart than be carried out of Wall Mart by the coroners office.

Wal-mart is putting political correctness ahead of the safety of their customers and employees. I like cheap prices as much as anyone, but not the expense of my safety.
No I freaking blame Wal-Mart. It was Wal-Mart that fired them. Stop making excuses for Wal-Mart.
I was a Walmart LP for 5 years. The day that AP09 became policy I knew I had to quit. Total hands off and no pursuit beyond 10 feet from the door. In addition, while they will say there is no “quota” on stops, if you didn’t maintain a certain level of productivity, you were let go. AP09 made the job impossible.
