In a post I wrote regarding Michelle Obama and her plans to parent our children for us, I remarked about her $495 Tory Burch gardening boots. A few of the comments wondered why I brought them up, and why, as a capitalist, would I have a problem with pricey shoes?
The boots were mentioned to remind readers of how out of touch with reality the First Lady is. The average American mama doesnt have a single pair of shoes in her closet that cost that much, let alone gardening boots. When Im inclined to work outdoors, I put on a pair of three-year-old sneakers that are practically falling apart.
Referring to the self-appointed mom-in-chiefs aloofness when it comes to relating to us regular moms was useful to drive home the point that she is not qualified to make our parenting decisions for us. Only the best for the Obamas, whether its boots, school, vacation, vacation, vacation, or vacation. The rest of us can eat cake. Or carrot sticks.

Ace Hardware, 12 bucks
I have an older pair of Crocs that the Pit Bull Pup chewed up...those I use for gardening.
My gardening shoes are always the oldest, most beat up pair of sneakers I have. And next year, they are replace by the next pair of shoes in the progression.
Imelda Marcos....on steroids!
From such things are revolution born.
Anyone remember the Spain trip and how much EACH of those hotel rooms cost per night? Did I mention that they rented the entire castle?
And that the reason they gave for going was they wanted to show Sasha THE RAIN IN SPAIN?
I didn’t make that up.
i go barefoot cause I can’t afford any shoes
I don’t have $495 in my garden boots, garden tools, and garden COMBINED. I just make do with the $40 pair of work boots I picked up at Wally World, along with the $11 shovel from same.

Alright there’s little about this woman that doesn’t annoy me. But is this one of those damned if she does, damned if she doesn’t? If she put on a pair of old workboots from Target are people going to accuse her of wearing Made in China slave labor crapola?
...NOT

Same here. You can hose them off easily.
Folks that are spending time aggravated by or worrying about what kind of shoes the first lady wears need to get a hobby, some friends, or a life in general. If she had worn an old, shabby pair of tennis shoes, the very same folks here complaining would be making comments about how embarassing she was for wearing torn-up shoes.
yes, if the boot fits....
My gardening ‘boots’ are typically the old running shoes that I have just worn out. So the cycle goes wear my running shoes out, move those to garden shoes, buy new running shoes ... wash, rinse and repeat.
$450 gardening boots my arse ...
