LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Actress Lindsay Lohan was charged on Wednesday with grand theft over a $2,500 necklace that was allegedly taken from a Los Angeles jewelry store.
Lohan was scheduled to appear in court later on Wednesday for an arraignment on the single felony count.
If convicted, the 24-year-old "Mean Girls" star could be sent to prison just as she struggles to end more than three years of court appearances, failed drug tests and brief spells in jail stemming from a 2007 drunk driving conviction.
Lohan's lawyer has said that the actress denies the allegations and will fight them in court.
Friends have said Lohan believed the necklace, which has been returned to police, was on loan.

No offense but basing your decision on looks and feelings is you being a big wussy liberal.
Best thing that could happen to her is she does some serious time. Not everyone learns lessons an easy way. Some have to learn them a very hard way.

She’s an alcoholic and a drug addict, why wouldn’t she also be a clepto?
They’re saying there are at least 3 other instances where she ‘accidentally’ took some high dollar items in the past but they didn’t press charges.
I’m saying she’s a spoiled brat who portrays the worst of american society. She’s needs to finally be sent away for longer than a couple weeks.

She turns up to court to ask the judge for leniency towards her for violating her parole with the words "f**k you" painted on one of her fingernails.
She deserves all she gets.
I hope they don’t go easy on her and actually make an example of her so she does HARD TIME. Then maybe we won’t be hearing so much of these Hollywood celebrities getting off with a slap on the wrist and free publicity to further their career.

That’s the $2500 necklace in question? Wow, unless that a piece of Elvis’ tooth stuck in there I’d give you a buck-fifty for it.

She’s looking at 3 years in state prison.. at least she has lots of friends that will visit her, and if not, she can always find some pen pals.
This is nothing more than a DA looking for personal publicity.
If when Lohan says ‘borrowed it’ she actually means that she just took it, expecting the jewelry store owner to NOT call the police....assuming the owner would just call her to have it returned.....THEN I’ll believe Lohan’s story.
