Arizona U.S. Senator John McCain says he will not be backing any of the potential Republican presidential candidates as they look to defeat President Barack Obama in the 2012 election.
I think Im staying out of this for the first time in many years, Mr. McCain told Politico on Thursday.
The comment comes as Mr. McCain returned from a one on one meeting with President Obama at the White House. The Arizona Republican said he viewed the meeting as a sign of increasing bipartisanship on Capitol Hill, adding that his meeting with the president was cordial and that Mr. Obama has become more of a centrist. The announcement is likely a blow for former Alaska governor Sarah Palin. Ms. Palin, who ran with Mr. McCain during the 2008 presidential campaign, likely stood to benefit the most from a potential McCain endorsement.
The announcement that the Arizona U.S. Senator will not back a 2012 Republican presidential candidate comes as a number of potential Republican presidential candidates ramp up their schedules. It is expected a that a number of potential candidates will officially announce their candidacy in the upcoming weeks.
Meanwhile, Ms. Palin continues to build speculation over a possible presidential run. The former Alaska governors political action committee, SarahPAC, reportedly has upwards of $1.3 million on hand, a sign that that Ms. Palin may be transitioning over from raising money, to building a campaign.
The comment comes within twenty-four hours of former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney saying he supports a run by Ms. Palin, noting the more, the better.

Mitt Romney saying he supports a run by Ms. Palin, noting the more, the better.................................... He would need her, as like, in VP? If he can get her to agree to VP, he may be golden. Ya never know, politics breeds strange bedfellows.
Let’s hope so. I am concerned about the current batch of likely candidates. Hoping to see someone unexpected jump in. Problem is that an effective candidate has to be building an organization already.
Sarah looks better without that albatross around her neck anyway.
One of his better moves, imo.
Sure.
McCain’s too busy saying dumb things like Obama is a centrist.
What a loon. What a moron.
She has NO chance of winning.
Her negatives are through the roof with the MAJORITY of people. Unless you have people changing votes for her towin, there is no way she could win legitimately.
I thoroughly enjoy her sharp tongue and being mouthy with Obama but her shallowness is not what I want for a President.
He’s voting for obama again.
Well at least this absolves her of any further responsibility to support McLame for anything
I did not hold it against her for supporting him when he ran for re-election, it would have been ungracious of her, to say the least.
But now she can tell him to kiss her a$$!!
Romney/Palin, talk about a Mutt-and-Jeff administration.
Sadly, it seems that Sarah Palin will gladly dim her light for the sake of a RINO, and Romney is more like a RINOINO.
They were just doing what Sarah told them to do.
He does not want to do anything to get on the bad side of the POTUS!!!
How could he have been neutered if Meghan McCain is his daughter(looks just like him)?
He’s a VC Ace, destroyed 5 US jets.
McCain’s star has dropped raidly since he lost to Obama and it may be that he does not wish to hurt Sarah’s chances with an endorsement. That is what it looks like to me.
All candidates are “shallow” until they actually run.
People need to read this. It’s the real McCain.

Not among conservatives.
she just keeps right on recieving gifts
Or it could be that he wants to deflect the responsibility for his lackluster performance as a presidential candidate on Palin.
McCain NEVER opposed Obama or his election.
