Arizona U.S. Senator John McCain says he will not be backing any of the potential Republican presidential candidates as they look to defeat President Barack Obama in the 2012 election.
I think Im staying out of this for the first time in many years, Mr. McCain told Politico on Thursday.
The comment comes as Mr. McCain returned from a one on one meeting with President Obama at the White House. The Arizona Republican said he viewed the meeting as a sign of increasing bipartisanship on Capitol Hill, adding that his meeting with the president was cordial and that Mr. Obama has become more of a centrist. The announcement is likely a blow for former Alaska governor Sarah Palin. Ms. Palin, who ran with Mr. McCain during the 2008 presidential campaign, likely stood to benefit the most from a potential McCain endorsement.
The announcement that the Arizona U.S. Senator will not back a 2012 Republican presidential candidate comes as a number of potential Republican presidential candidates ramp up their schedules. It is expected a that a number of potential candidates will officially announce their candidacy in the upcoming weeks.
Meanwhile, Ms. Palin continues to build speculation over a possible presidential run. The former Alaska governors political action committee, SarahPAC, reportedly has upwards of $1.3 million on hand, a sign that that Ms. Palin may be transitioning over from raising money, to building a campaign.
The comment comes within twenty-four hours of former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney saying he supports a run by Ms. Palin, noting the more, the better.

The good news never stops.
Who’d want his backing anyway? He’s saving Sarah a load of grief.
Sorry Arizona, but you dropped the ball re-electing this dipstick! What a fool McLame is!!
Jeb Bush. Wanna bet? I bet the RINOS end up with Bush/ Romney in 12.
Who cares? He’s past news.
Sarah will do much better by not having his approval.
When exactly has Palin officially stated she is running for POTUS? Anyhow, frak McCainIdiot.
He’ll never get the chance as she’ll never run.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the candidate is someone we’ve not seen in the spotlight yet.
Too bad the entire GOP didn't feel that way in 2008.
If only he'd said that years ago...
F*** you McCain. You’ve squandered every bit of good will you earned for your military service. You’re just another corrupt political hack whose continued presence in the Senate is a net loss to the Nation.
Good! It makes Sarah that much more appealing! I could go into the voting more confident that she wasn’t going to go “Rino” on me.
“Whod want his backing anyway? Hes saving Sarah a load of grief.”
______________
Exactly. she doesn’t need that albatross around her neck...

Not only will he not be backing Palin for president, I expect he will be undermining and backstabbing her should she elect to run. Typical Juan McCain behavior.
Who the hell is he trying to kid? He’ll wait until he thinks he knows conclusively who the winner of the primaries are and he will run straight out to get his media and camera fix.
It’s a little early to be backing anyone as a candidate. No one has even declared yet... Give me a break!
Nice payback McPain!
Sarah campaigned and endorsed YOU!
She was trying to be a good ole boy -
what she claims NOT to be!
LOL!
He’s probably doing her a great favor by butting out of the GOP primaries... if he will in fact keep his word. If he means he won’t even give the nod to whoever ends up actually running for president on the GOP ticket... well what a turncoat but it ain’t surprising.
Even during McCain’s campaign for the presidency he never stopped backing 0bama!
