Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) have rekindled their alliance on immigration reform, taking some early steps to test the political will for addressing the contentious issue this year.
(snip)
Its in the infant stage, Graham told POLITICO. I dont know what the political appetite is to do something.
(snip)
And in one closely watched comment, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) let it slip recently that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) seems to think that theres a shot at this. It led to a round of speculation that the McCain of the past, the senator who ushered a comprehensive bill through the chamber in 2006, might be ready to come back.
(snip)
The involvement of heavyweights like McCain and Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) may be the only way to lend broader credibility to the effort.
Conservatives are hacked off with Schumer for so many reasons, said the Rev. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Conventions Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, who supports comprehensive immigration reform. Both carry baggage. There need to be some new faces that carry the issue, such as Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).
(snip)
McCain said he wont rejoin the talks until Congress approves a 10-point border security plan, which he and Kyl introduced last year, and the governors of the states adjoining Mexico certify their borders as secure.
The smart move for the country and the administration would be, take McCain-Kyl and make it law, Graham said. Let everybody know we are putting resources in the border and were going to fix it. And then move on to the other parts.
(snip)
Murkowski confirmed to POLITICO that her staff has been contacted by Schumer aides to discuss the issue, but the discussions havent involved her yet.

*shakes head*
McCain is a complete a**, but where do you get off lecturing anyone about this particular subject?
Can South Carolina FReepers please explain why you send Lindsay Graham to Washington? Is it just to get him out of SC?
That dust storm is from McCain rushing to get back with his ‘friends across the aisle’.
This is Arizona’s fault for send he back to the Senate. Of course, SC wasn’t much better because they returned Graham.
Maybe, at least, there will be enough backbone in the House to stop any McCain-Graham-Schumer madness on amnesty.
...how about enforcing the law? Real simple measure....whats not simple is getting the message to these vote whoring, self interested,power hungry idiots.
Our boy Juan McCain will be right in the thick of it.
Thanks Arizona.
Would something like this pass in the House?
Mexico's using the Mideast Playbook very effectively----extorting billions using the well-worn Mideast Scam. Federales are getting rich on US dollars, hitting all the tried-and-true Mideast buttons:
(1) plotting to become a ward of the US;
(2) faking victimization;
(3) secretly revving up internal conflicts;
(4) play-acting the ignoramus;
(5) claiming they can't "control" their enemies without US money;
(6) organizing voting blocs----exchanging votes for US cash.

What is it with these guys? “Test the political will.” You test it every year, and every year you get shot down, it’s pretty obvious what the “political will” is. Then you start all over again. What part of “no” don’t you understand?
A ten point border security plan? Just build the freakin’ fence you jackasses!
This is just going to create another clusterfark. These guys just don’t get it.
The only way for this country to survive is to seal the border and for some reason our “leaders” don’t want to do it. The only conclusion I can come to is “one world government”.
As the Mexicans come across and they’re starving, home invasions are going to go through the roof. Food riots everywhere. When people are hungry they’ll do what they have to do to eat.
1) Close the border, NOW!
2) Staff up and train the immigration services;
(This is actually a legitimate role of the federal government, that shows that we’re serious about promoting LEGAL immigration!)
3) Emphasize that current policies supporting SLAVE WAGES for LEGAL immigrants, will not be promoted or tolerated.
4) Insist on education and social policies promoting assimilation, which is the ONLY path on which immigrants can prosper!
Thank God for the Tea Party members. They’ll never go for it.
If these RINO’s find it so easy to make alliances with Democrats, now the front party for the socialists, who are the well-established front party for communism, why don’t they just switch parties and go full Democrat? Judas goats. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judas_goat
I know my congressman won’t vote for any kind of amnesty.
