5 Best and 5 Worst Places for Conservatives to Live
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | Megan Fox

Posted on 02/06/2011 9:41:01 AM PST by Michael van der Galien

Here in the totally Democrat-run state of IL, a 66% income tax just hit our paychecks last week. As you can imagine, anyone with any sense has spent the last week discussing to which state we should flee. My friends and I have been fantasizing about a conservative commune where everyone showers, no one would starve (because we hunt) and there is no wife-swapping. It’s a fun exercise to think about. Several of us believe a solution to our partisan problems (before it descends into civil war) might just be to part ways with the American Left and set up traditional American government in the already conservative states. The first goal should be in beefing up these already rational and taxpayer-friendly states with more like-minded citizens. Too many of us are separated and living in enemy territory, forced into an ideological closet from which we dare not exit for fear of public humiliation and shunning.

Living in a solid blue state, it is nearly impossible not to have been accosted at a cocktail party while trying to enjoy some shrimp by a (literally) foaming at the mouth leftist who accidentally found out you voted for Bush. And God forbid it should be discovered you once worked for Rush Limbaugh (like me). In that scenario, not one person would come to your defense if your accuser threw you through a plate glass window. I’m not a bumper sticker person (too hard to scrape off) but I’ve known a few brave souls who’ve had their cars scratched for advertising their conservative beliefs. There must be better places to live. I’ve come to the conclusion that now might be the time to start looking. The following are the best and worst places in the country for a conservative...

You failed to mention the “rest of the story”.

Yes the Illinois state legislature, meeting in a lame duck session with selected installation of some of the newly elected members, raised bother personal and corporate income taxes by 2%. This was done to help with the state's budget crises.

But, at the same time, the same people increased the state's spending by the same amount, 2 %.

I don't know how the people in Illinois do their math but as far as this Southern can see the net impact to the state's budget crises is ZERO. In fact, it will probably increase the debt in the out years because all of those state employees will require pay raises, increased retirement benefits, et al.

My goodness...I was there just a week ago!

Had I known Justice Thomas was on the way, I would've extended my stay.

It IS an amazing place, out in the middle of nowhere.

It was probably built there with the hopes that liberals would never find it and contaminate the place.

VT used to be a very conservative part of New England. Now it makes Mass. look almost sane.

We’ve got about 36” of global warming on the ground here in CT. We’re also considering giving up the bucolic life here in the rural part of the state and heading to warmer (and more conservative) parts of the country.

I always find it ironic that my home state was founded by Puritans who thought the Mass Bay Colony was getting too moderate and wanted a more conservative place to live.

My how times change.

Already thought of and attempted in NH. It's called the "Free State Project". Don't know how much success it's had.

I’m from Oklahoma and while I haven’t lived there for 20 years I watched in amazement as the whole damn state went crazy.

I still don’t believe it.

You go to places like Cushing, Drumright, Oilton, Yale all the way down to Duncan and back up to Miami and you won’t find many Democrats and if you do they keep their heads down.

If Okies voted for Barry ... fine and I think they suffered from distemper.

But, I don’t believe it.

"Did you know the only State that didn’t have at least one county voting for Obama in 08 was Oklahoma?"

That's not entirely true. Not a single county in Louisiana went for Obama.

Agreed! I live out in BFE 10 miles west of Columbus - great place to live. The left wing wackos are few and far between.

If a ‘Rat gets elected around here it is because of that Democrat legacy vote — the same one that sent Baron Hill to the Hall of Shame.

Interesting thing about Columbus is that the largest employer in the area is Cummins Engine Company — with the requisite union — yet all offices except the Mayor go Republican by an average vote of 65% - 35%. The Mayor thing here is the Mayor is an ex-cop, very personable, knows everybody and is retiring in 2012 — next up — a Republican Mayor.

How in the hell can Vermont not make the worst list? A Republican has not won in presidential voting since Reagan. Our Senate delegation is Leahy and Sanders. Really, that doesn’t get us in the top 5?

Unfortunately, we don't have the luxury of abandoning the blue states, esp CA or NY. They are simply too big.
If the blue states go down and I mean really go down, they will drag the rest of the country with them.

I have lived in NE since I was exiled in 1960, NH is expensive if you allow it to be. When I retired I took a good look at the house I bought and made corrections so that I will never be cold or hot for that matter. Cost a few bucks but that was anticipated. I love this State and the People that I have met here.

“I could go on and on and on, but other than being only one of 3 States with a “Right to carry” “

Michigan is right to carry, as long as its open carry there is no permit required. It is “shall issue” if you want to carry concealed. Any non-felon can carry here.

Cummins has a local union - the DWU - Diesel Workers Union.
MUCHO different than typical UAW goons affiliated with national Democrats.
The union at Cummins has about 30% of the power that it does at a F/GM/Ch plant.
The company can actually fire thieves, dopers, etc rather than send them to rehab and pay them for decades.

I’m still not sure if it’s my ancient hardware and operating system, but there were other complaints, LOL.

Most websites load just fine for me.

I couldn't get to page two. If there were an article somewhere in all that clutter it'd be news to me.
