It is amazing to me that the majority of the American Jewish voters vote Democrat. How many are looking at the chessboard now and realizing and understanding that just maybe their votes for Obama (and Carter) were not well-thought out? How many would prefer the strength, patriotism, and steadfastness of President Reagan and Presidents Bush when it comes to national security and allegiances to allies?

If Egypt should fall, it will mark the beginning of the end for what little remaining stability there is in the Middle East.

On the other hand if the Egyptians can pull off a transition to true democracy it would be the beginning of real and long lasting stability. The Egyptians are far more secular than most Muslim countries. They have a sense of independence and nationalism that is unique in the region. Let's not forget that Bush hoped that we would see a flowering a democracy in the region. We saw a popular uprising in Lebanon and praised it when it happened. Let's not assume that the Egyptians are going to vote themselves a Taliban government.

The Muslim Brotherhood has been the only real opposition to Nasser-Sadat-Mubarek for half a century, which has given them credibility. If other parties present themselves as alternatives to either Mubarek or MB and can get some credibility they can be a big player.

If the MB get the reins of power it is a disaster but I don't accept that it is a given that they will be able to pull it off.
