WASHINGTON The Obama administration is discussing with Egyptian officials a proposal for President Hosni Mubarak to resign immediately, turning over power to a transitional government headed by Vice President Omar Suleiman with the support of the Egyptian military, administration officials and Arab diplomats said Thursday.

Flame as you see proper, but I don’t see what choice Obama has. Mubareks regime is beyond saving. The US must take the lead in naming the successor regime ... Not necessarily the individuals, but the structure.
ML/NJ
Egyptian officials = Muslim Brotherhood
according to the NSA, the administration doesn’t have a plan for new leadership..........even tho’ CIA warned them last year of the instability. it is better to have Mubarak than a power vacuum that Muslim Brotherhood will totally exploit. the administration was caught flat-footed on this one and hopefully it won’t cost us Egypt and the region.
I agree that The Hoser is toast-- but I was hoping that he could try to ease the transition. If he resigns this weekend-- we all lose.
The Obama Administration is pouring JP8 on the fire here. We are all going to get burned.
Can be applied to almost any situation.
Why?
I can't think of a more disastrous thing that the US could do right now.
Because the vacuum will absolutely be filled by Islamists without our intervention. With it, there is a chance it won’t be.
I am not condoning what Obama has done to this point, however we are where we are, and we cannot be passive.
Obama has the “choice” to S T F U and let the situation calm down instead of his stupid “CHANGE NOW” mantra that’s inflaming both sides of the situation.
I’m surely glad to learn that Obama doesn’t approve of the military firing on “peaceful protesters”. Liberals define the Tea Pary as “violent” in it’s intent but the Egyptians with their bottle bombs, rocks and steel pipes are “peaceful”? I hope Obama is as magnanimous if he himself is ever on the receiving end of a such a “peaceful” demonstration.
I tend to agree - IMO the longer this drags out, the more likely that the radicals like Brotherhood will be able to seize and control the final outcome
We’re already over-involved as it is. American meddling, inept and clumsy as it is, does not benefit our national interests. How many other governments that are ‘allied’ with us are now terrified of what that alliance could mean. We’re doing far more damage to our own interests than any perceived gain.
It’s not going to calm down. That is a pipe dream. The islamists are fully engaged now. The question is, do we resist them, or let them take over?
What happened to not taking sides?
It will sure be interesting to hear what Mubarak has to say about all of this when he’s finally out of the country...
Any other US president, perhaps... but we're talking about Obama here. Look at the people he's hired at the White House. If he gets a say in a new government in Egypt they'll have radicals and other Israel-hating, America-hating nuts in charge.
hey media and obama why the rush?
where was you lot on Iran?
Why not say the same thing over Iran?
Why did obama choose Cairo now?
Who did obama really meet over in Cairo?
Who was in talks?
Why is code pink over there?
Why have you no problem with a radcial slam group MB coming in.
Why the need to get rid of an ally for decades and who has kept peace with Israel?
Did Ayers have anything to do with this when he was over in the middle ease?
Why is Soros too speaking against Israel
Who controls Egypt controls the Suez canal and most of the wests import and exports, plus energy?
Why is this so called media being so biased even for them this is way out of control?
Many questions but obama has been on a black out from the media and yet they the so called media complain about Egypt
