Tequila's Dirty Secret: It’s Causing a Major Environmental Problem in Mexico
FoxNews.com ^ | February 02, 2011 | Fox News Latino

Two years ago, when Los Angeles businessman Alejandro Viecco visited the agave-fields surrounding the Mexican town of Tequila—where the eponymous liquor is made—he made a startling discovery. The process of making tequila, it turns out, can be as messy, smelly and disgusting as the aftermath of drinking too much of it.

“When you go to [the town of] Tequila, there’s this beautiful fresh spring water coming through the lava rock,” he says. “Then not that far away you have this waste that’s being dumped. It has hot alcohol content and it’s destroying everything in its path. If you looked at the creek, it was like running mud, and very pungent.”

Public urination is becoming a problem north of the border, too.

Especially around gas stations and construction sites.

I am going to avoid tequila in the future....not because of environmental problems, but because it supports the gov’t of Mexico.

Or do they just want to save the parts without armed cartels?

Brave souls, these environuts...

OK. I’ll say it.
When tequila is outlawed, only outlaws will have tequila.

Tequila Sunrise

It’s another tequila sunrise
Starin’ slowly ‘cross the sky, said goodbye
He was just a hired hand
Workin’ on the dreams he planned to try
The days go by

Ev’ry night when the sun goes down
Just another lonely boy in town
And she’s out runnin’ ‘round

She wasn’t just another woman
And I couldn’t keep from comin’ on

It’s been so long
Oh, and it’s a hollow feelin’ when
It comes down to dealin’ friends
It never ends

Take another shot of courage
Wonder why the right words never come
You just get numb
It’s another tequila sunrise, this old world
still looks the same,
Another frame, mm...

I’ve never understood the popularity of Tequila, it’s about the only hard liquor I can’t stand. To me it tastes like somebody let a bunch of old cigarette butts steep in vodka for a few weeks. I guess it’s just personal taste, I have friends that love the stuff, but I wouldn’t pay a dime for it.

Under it, Greenhouse will remove and recycle 600 tons of solid agave waste a day, or 33% of the total in the area. The bagasse will be mixed with some vinaza, then turned into compost and resold to Mexican farmers.

Proof, that if left alone, Capitalism will solve almost any problem.

I like the Cabo Wabo - normally around the price of Patron silver (about $55/bottle), but when Walgreens has it on sale here (gotta love NM for availability of alcohol), I can get it for about $25/bottle.

Why is it that enviro-weenies always seem to have a problem with anything people happen to enjoy? Just once I’d love to see them have a complaint against something like lima bean or brussel sprout farming.

CARB shuts down Margaritaville

Sacramento - The Air Resources Board this month fined Orange County-based On the Edge Marketing and CSK Auto Inc. of Phoenix $240,000 for selling gasoline-powered blenders using illegal uncertified small off-road enginesto California businesses and residents.

“Gasoline-powered blenders may be this year’s tailgate sensation, but drinkers should not be polluting our air while having a good time,”
said ARB Chairman Mary D. Nichols.
