A Detroit-area district says it's allowing Sikh students to wear a small, religious dagger to school, MyFoxDetroit.com reports.
The decision by the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools reverses a ban put in place in December after a fourth-grader at a Canton Township elementary school was found with a dull, 3- to 5-inch kirpan.
The kirpan represents a commitment to fight evil in the Sikh tradition.

As long as it's not something hateful and violent ... like a cross.

I have no problem with the dagger but agree that a cross or star of david should be fine.

I’d rather have a Sikh with a dagger than a jihadi with a suicide vest..............

As far as I know, Sikhs are pretty cool people. I have no desire to limit the religious expression of Sikhs. But it should be obvious that the Left (which controls the public schools) will oppress Christians at every possible opportunity, but will take a more tolerant stance for other relgions.
It's all about being anti-Christian (and anti-Jewish as well). The God of the Bible is the enemy they oppose.

Excellent!
Used to be that all young men carried a knife to school. You had to sharpen your pencils, after all! My elderly relative was as shocked to learn that boys don’t carry knives now as the teenager interviewing him was shocked to hear that they used to!

They are not a model minority in Canada

The Courts have held that neutral laws of general applicability applied to all on an equal basis are constitutionally valid. We are a nation of laws. Making special “dangerous weapons” exceptions to Sikhs based on their religious beliefs and traditions is a cowardly bow to political correctness. Just as government may not constitutionally target specific religious beliefs for imposing burdens, it may not favor certain faiths for carving out exceptions.

Well, if the child is asked about the drawing, he should say that it may LOOK like an M-16, but he is not a very good artist, and it is really supposed to be Prophet Mohammad.

The kirpan represents a commitment to fight evil in the Sikh tradition. ...and my son's SA .357 Magnum Revolver represents a 'commitment to fight evil' in the AMERICAN tradition.
So what!

Sounds good to me. Sikhs should be able to take their kirpans anywhere they wish.
Now if they will only let normal kids and adults have pocket knives like normal people should...

No, we can’t have that. That would be almost as bad as a kid with an unregistered aspirin or inhaler.
