Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather, who refused to go silently into retirement after the network dumped him in 2005, spoke last week to a group of students at American University about the future of journalism.
Rather, who held the anchor job for 24 years, told the students that the increasingly biased media will threaten the U.S. and that A free and independent press is the red beating heart of democracy and freedom.
He went on to remind the audience that shows that feature the likes of Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews are opinion and not news and that the underlying impetus of the media is to generate profits.
Hallelujah! After spending 43 years at CBS and another five plus in exile Rather is finally concerned about media bias.

Gunga Dan ... escaped from the asylum again ... but this time he's not completely off his meds ... yet
gold i tell ya...gold!!!
Having been apart of it, is this the rhetoric of a man who has had a revelation or a man who is simply a hypocrite? I prefer the latter. =.=
Neither, delusional is more like it. You see in Dan’s world, he and Jennings and Cronkite and Katie and Williams and the rest of the left wing newsreaders, too many to name, are telling the absolute truth. They tell it with an ironclad commitment to journalistic purity and tell it right down the middle while they struggle, but of course always manage to keep their personal opinions and bias’ in check.
You cannot make this stuff up.
Free from all who are like you Dan.
So “Danny Boy”, thinks that as long as it’s made up news that he believes in it is OK.
What a buffoon.
On the contrary, ol' Dan is quite good at making this stuff up.
Ahhh come on guys, have a heart!!! He’s just a guy trying to get into heaven after living life to the fullest, at the expense of the entire country and a good portion of the globe...is all. You’ll are just so unforgiving./s

speaking of chris matthews...
MSNBCs Chris Matthews is anchoring a Presidents Day special on MSNBC three weeks from today titled President of the World: The Bill Clinton Phenomenon.
The special will take viewers behind the scenes of Clintons life, says the press release:
Theres not a single political figure today with the global reach and influence of Bill Clintona former U.S. President turned humanitarian and diplomat extraordinaire. No one else in todays political arena has the ability to command the attention of world leaders and organizations everywhere quite like he does.
Maybe Dan wants to be a ‘contributing analyst’ on Fox.
“Theres not a single political figure today with the global reach and influence of Bill Clintona former U.S. President turned humanitarian and diplomat extraordinaire. No one else in todays political arena has the ability to command the attention of world leaders and organizations everywhere quite like he does.”
Is that a good thing, or a bad thing?
Of course they are opinion shows just like Hannity is. The problem, Dan, is the bias in the so called straight news departments of all three networks; the Courics and Williams’ and Sawyers etc.

Riiiiiiiiiight. Americans from coast to coast are already tripping over ottomans and spraining index fingers setting their DVRs for this cutting edge, totally relevant, not-at-all overblown slobber-fest .
I guarantee the ratings will be the same as for MSNBC’s usual basement numbers programming.
Good question.
Are they trying to portray Clinton, a corrupt character, as a hero now? i believe he simply had better circumstances and reacted well. But, did he display ‘leadership’? I don’t think so.
