SANTA FE – Governor Susana Martinez announced today that she has signed an executive order rescinding sanctuary status for illegal immigrants who commit crimes in New Mexico while protecting victims and witnesses of criminal acts. The order signed by Governor Martinez directs law enforcement officers to inquire about the immigration status of those who are arrested for committing crimes.
“This order takes the handcuffs off of New Mexico’s law enforcement officers in their mission to keep our communities safe,” said Governor Martinez. “The criminal justice system should have the authority to determine the immigration status of all criminals, regardless of race or ethnicity, and report illegal immigrants who commit crimes to federal authorities. Meanwhile, it is important that we safeguard the ability of victims and witnesses to report crimes to law enforcement officers without fear of repercussion.”

Then there are the women - Sarah Palin, Michelle Backman, Susanna Martinez, Jan Brewer, Nikki Haley, etc. - all strong, principled and unafraid.
Gentlemen (and I use the term VERY loosely), wake up and speak out OR pack up and get out. You are embarassing.

The first indication is that an illegal can’t (or hardly can) speak English. After all, part of our LEGAL immigration laws are that you must learn to read and write ENGLISH before becoming a citizen.

A “foreigner” is easy to spot.
I live in the Republic of Panama, and I can spot a non-Panamanian miles away. They dress differently. Their haircut is different. Their taste and style of shoes are different. Their shirts and t-shirts are subtly different. Their trousers and jeans are different…and much, much more.
Do I look like a foreigner? Yes I do too. I have always addressed like an American.
Ok...... waiting for the next lawsuit by the Holder Justice Department to be filed.
Likewise, the "outreach" state agencies do to recruit illegals into the ranks of state welfare benefit recipients, which goes on just about every weekend somewhere in the Willamette valley.
Here in SE NM we are close to 50% Hispanic as you may know, but here they have jobs and do well for themselves, for the most part.

Actually the sanctuary rule wouldn't let cops check immigration status of people they arrested for other crimes, once they assertion that the perp is an illegal then they do something about the crime of being here illegally. Before she lifted the rule however, nothing could be done to determine if the perp was an illegal or not. Applaud this woman don't question her.
Yes you can. There are behavior “tells,” as well as other indicators. Ask any Border Patrol Agent. Heck, just ask those that live in the Southwest. If they are honest they will tell you illegals are easy to spot. Easy.
Only the PC-crowd (not you) averts their gaze to avoid seeing the obvious.
I agree. I was born and raised in Colorado and have lived in NM the last 60 years. You can tell who most of the illegals, especially the recent ones, by their accent.

Yes, it would be. The reality of the situation is that given the challenges to, and gutting of Arizona's SB1070, which could inquire about immigration status on less than an arrest, this is a workable plan.
This process has been in place in Albuquerque (Republican Mayor Richard Berry, first since the 80's) for about a year. ICE has agents in the booking area of the metropolitan jail and question everyone as to status. That eliminates the "profiling" whiners main argument, and as the person was arrested as opposed as suspected of a crime it further weakens the libs complaining.
There has been no legal challenge to this procedure, and it nets about 10-20 illegals a week IIRC.
