If Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak is toppled, Israel will lose one of its very few friends in a hostile neighborhood and President Barack Obama will bear a large share of the blame, Israeli pundits said on Monday.
Political commentators expressed shock at how the United States as well as its major European allies appeared to be ready to dump a staunch strategic ally of three decades, simply to conform to the current ideology of political correctness.

One comment by Aviad Pohoryles in the daily Maariv was entitled "A Bullet in the Back from Uncle Sam." It accused Obama and his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of pursuing a naive, smug, and insular diplomacy heedless of the risks.
Who is advising them, he asked, "to fuel the mob raging in the streets of Egypt and to demand the head of the person who five minutes ago was the bold ally of the president ... an almost lone voice of sanity in a Middle East?"

"Jordan and Saudi Arabia see the reactions in the West, how everyone is abandoning Mubarak, and this will have very serious implications,"

"The question is, do we think Obama is reliable or not," said an Israeli official, who declined to be named.
"Right now it doesn't look so. That is a question resonating across the region not just in Israel."
Writing in Haaretz, Ari Shavit said Obama had betrayed "a moderate Egyptian president who remained loyal to the United States, promoted stability and encouraged moderation."
To win popular Arab opinion, Obama was risking America's status as a superpower and reliable ally.
"Throughout Asia, Africa and South America, leaders are now looking at what is going on between Washington and Cairo. Everyone grasps the message: "America's word is worthless ... America has lost it."

I’m not considering Obama’s cozy relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood.
Not really sure how the US should have responded but it obviously wasn’t right... I would think that the default would be for the democratic rights of the people (ie. the rioters). This seems to be an option that is obscure to the current White House...
At the age of 82 Mubarak’s days are numbered even if he were to survive these protests.
Apparently Israel has not been watching Obama very closely - that’s his MO - throwing everyone under the bus.
Hey Israel, you’re next.
They’re shocked? Where the heck have they been since January 2009?
Especially when things become difficult.
Not sure if they are rioting in Cairo, but if our government shut down the Internet, shutdown cell phone service, banned certain political groups, abolished the electoral system and tortured political opponents, we would be in the streets rioting.
I’m not all that sure why the people of Cairo should not have the same desires for freedom as people in America.
Obama is an enemy of the United States PERIOD and anyone who can’t see that by now is a certified MORON. I know it’s hard to grasp but the country elected a closet enemy to be president. He needs to ousted from office before it’s too late. This is really the end folks. 4 months from now we can have radical Islam ruling 4 or 5 countries in the Middle East including Egypt. We are is a BAD BAD place here folks.
Understand his opposition to BAIPA and you will understand everything about about the person presently operating under the alias of Barack Hussein Obama.
The world is now discovering the "truth" of which some Americans have been warning. There is no reliability - only vacations...
He’s the little girl in junior high who wanted to hang out with the bad kids.
It didn’t “shock” me, I saw it coming.
Israel was disappointed in Carter’s response to 1979...
Only an office weenie judge advocate could post such a stupid article.....
Well, Israel, you are probably next.
