Bah! What ‘guy’ hasn’t made a pipe bomb, or similar type device while growing up? We used to refer to it as “home made fireworks”. I know my friends and I got really bored of store bought fireworks as we got older, and there was no shortage of pipe, fuse, and powder. It sucks they got hurt. You have to be careful.

hmmm... not sure about Amish, but Lakeland is a suburb of Memphis.

3 men making pipe bombs behind the house. Were they Muslim? Forgive me for guessing wildly.

When I was a kid, we used to make ours with match heads and glass jars.

Pretty bright, eh?

pipe bomb

One the boys involved, not the injured one.

More detailed report with video here.

Sounds like an unfortunate accident. Just some young guys being young guys making loud booms.

Nope, I’m betting they were just three dolts out for some good, clean pipe bomb exploding on a sunny Saturday morning.
They should give this guy a pipe metal prosthesis to kinda remind him of what a dope he is.

I haven’t reached the point of rage that Jared Loughner did, but trying to read the news drives me a little crazy.

What happened to the days when reporters went to school to study grammar and learn how to write?

This article says the deputies arrived to find the man with three feet, one of which was injured.

I got so frustrated with this, I quit reading the transcripts of the Glenn Beck show.

More than one major news article a day has a line like this.
I read one this morning.

Do we need to wonder why people don’t understand the Constitution?

That’s what they get for using Chinese pipe.

“Youths” is the term... But since they were white, the news source uses the term “men.”

When I was in prep school, I had to spend three days of vacation doing hard labor for the school as a penalty for setting off a doorknob bomb.

We very carefully set it off where it would do no damage. I had learned how to make black powder using chemicals you could buy in those days, and a friend came up with a bit of dynamite fuse to set it off with.

We were told that people called up from ten miles away, asking if a boiler had exploded.

“deputies arrived to find the man with three feet, one of which was injured.”

LOL! Actually, this is what it says:

“When deputies arrived they found the man with an injured foot and two others.”

But I like your interpretation better. You are correct that the writer doesn’t understand English. Or maybe the guy was simply trying to remove his extra foot.

The article doesn’t describe the type of pipe bombs they were making, but these things can be very dangerous. Extreme care needs to be taken if one is going to do something like this.

Given that it’s not quite legal, it is probably a better idea to avoid the pipe bomb experience altogether.

Probably trying to crimp the end of the pipe by stomping on it. I’ve heard of fools blowing themselves up by using a hammer to crimp the pipe end.

Perfect spark, perfect storm.

It sounds like the followup story will report the injured man has “one foot”.

I said “huh?” as well when I read it. LOL It’s Tennessee.

Our family reads the Kingsport Times-News (another TN paper) online every morning just for laughs.

One of my favorite library books when I was a kid was the two volumes of “Military Pyrotechnics.” My best friend’s father was a pharmacist so we had good access to chemicals at wholesale prices (saltpeter at $.27/lb). We didn’t do explosives but made lots of flares, smoke bombs, aerial stuff and the like. Great fun and we were careful, never came close to getting hurt. Of course, a book like “Military Pyrotechnics” would probably never be in one of today’s libraries.
