Obama Demands Mubarak Halt Violence, Introduce Reforms

U.S. President Barack Obama Saturday night called on Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to halt violence against opponents, protect freedoms and introduce reforms, nearly two years after he delivered his “reaching out to Muslim speech in Cairo.”

...Egypt has said it has gained control over near-anarchy that spread throughout the country Saturday night, but the groundswell of support for the opposition threatens the regime of Mubarak and could spark copy cat protests in other Muslim countries.

...“The people of Egypt have rights that are universal. That includes the right to peaceful assembly and association, the right to free speech, and the ability to determine their own destiny. These are human rights.”

...He maintained that “the United States has a close partnership with Egypt and we've cooperated on many issues” but that in the absence of social and economic reforms, “grievances have built up over time.”

..."Mubarak, you are a traitor and an American agent," the crowd chanted. "Hosni Mubarak, Saudi Arabia awaits you. We say to the Americans, 'do not interfere,’” Muslim Brotherhood leader Hamam Said told reporters. "Your control which has lasted 100 years is finished. We are living in a new era."

He warned the Jordanian kingdom "to draw lessons from the events (in Egypt) and start political reforms.” King Abdullah faces a society torn between native citizens and a growing dominance of Bedouin who do no identify with the king and his government.

Once again, BHO says the wrong things at the wrong time, in the wrong way, with the wrong intentions and the people of the Middle East will pay the price. How’s that raeching out moment from your Cairo speech working for you Mr. President?

The Egyptian people have had hostilities towards Kenyans in the past, so allowing Obama to speak in Egypt would be like allowing Saddam Hussein to speak at Reagan’s funeral. While Obama is obviously going to make the situation worse, I do hope that Mubarak maintains power and annihilates the Islamist squabblers without mercy. He’s the last hope in keeping Israel safe on its southern borders.

Wait a second ... when this was happening in Iran, Obama shunned any comments backing the people.

Why is he going off now?

Jimmy Carter and Iran was not an aberration. Obama is trying to repeat that performance and Hillary is just as bad. She’s another idiot and saboteur of American interests.

Obama said nothing when real democracy activists were on the streets of Tehran because empty suit Obama though he could charm the Iranians. Or maybe he’s the Ayatollahs friend too

He refused making comments about Iran saying he did want to interject himself into their politics. Now, he’s aiding and abetting.

I agree with your basic premise except for the point about the “wrong intentions”. I think Maobama’s intentions have always been the annhilation of Israel, breaking up US power in the Middle East and the strengthening of the Caliphate in the US. Andrew McCarthy points out in “The Grand Jihad” that many communists (my description, not McCarthy’s) and many islamist filth are pragmatists and can accomodate one another’s goals in the larger picture of world domination/one world government. Wrong intentions for us, but not for him and his.

I don’t believe te Egyptians have any reason to fear America (Obama) will interfere with anything that will give the Muslims the upper hand.
