SAN ANTONIO - Deborah Gonzalez says she is pretty heated with Hertz Rent A Car on San Pedro Avenue. Gonzales and her family say they found a loaded gun in a car they rented last week.
"I was horrified," said Gonzalez. "I couldn't even speak. I broke down crying because there was a loaded gun in my hands, and I don't know where it came from."
Gonzalez says she was riding in the car with her 2-year-old and 3-year-old grandchildren. She stumbled across the gun while picking up a child's shoe that fell under the driver's seat.
"I kept yanking, and yanking, and yanking because I could feel something."
Gonzalez says the incident has left her family traumatized.
"A lot of lives could have been ruined," said Gonzalez. "Mine! My kids! Lives could have been taken!"
A worker at the Hertz location would not give News 4 WOAI too many details, but said it is possible the car wasn't cleaned properly.
Gonzalez's family says that is no excuse for putting the children's safety at risk.
"It's very disappointing that a company that big could be so careless," said Gonzalez's husband, Marquis Stevens.
Gonzalez reported the gun to Converse Police Department. Officers say they have seized the gun and are treating it as a "found property" case.
The worried mom is now urging other drivers to use caution when renting a car.
News 4 WOAI is still waiting for an explanation about the incident from Hertz management.
Heysuss. Man up and keep the gun. What is wrong with people?
My boss was most afraid of a dead body turning up in a car truck or under a blanket in a rental truck. That would be bad for business.
Would have depended on whether the serial number was still there
To this day I still have a fear of a Mexican woman driving a station wagon.
Why it is I don't know, but you mix a Mexican women and a car together and they will go into panic mode at the slightest thing. The road might turn, but they don't. They just keep going straight.
Had that gun been found while she was driving, I don't have a doubt she would have had a wreck.
I'd like to know what she would have done if a big rat would have jumped out at her.
Whatta drama queen.
Carnitas, Literally “Little Meats”
Here it means roast pork (yummy!)
In some places it means anything that couldn’t run faster than the cook.
Now, that's funny!
haha! that's funny...
Perhaps. Turning it in means never seeing it again. Of course, you might be charged yourself.
Since it’s a rental car, which jurisdiction do you turn it in to?
It preserved my virginity for another few years at least.
If guns kill people, all mine are defective.
I guess mine are too. I know they kill predators and doves.
“I broke down crying because there was a loaded gun in my hands.”
Exact same thing happened to me this fall as I watched the big bull elk disappear over the ridge, ten minutes after legal sunset, last day of the season, my unfilled tag still in my backpack.
Are all hoplophobes this freaking neurotic? No wonder they are so dependent on government. They start crying if there is a metal tool in their hands. Pathetic.
While I have a special appreciation for the fit of my personal carry weapon, being able to rent does have its attractions - when I fly some airlines, the ticket for my luggage costs more than mine.
Not sure how the insurance companies would work that out, though.

Pansy.
Good one! I loved it!
A pistol under the seat?
Hot diggity!
Let’s see what’s in the trunk!
