To make an analogy, the house is on fire, and the birthers are focusing on how the matches got in the house and how they shouldn't be there, while everyone else is calling the fire department and gathering water and hoses to put it out.

What a ridiculous analogy. No, make that "what an asinine analogy". Here's an analogy for you that is actually valid:

There's a guy who shows up at the front door of the house wearing what looks like a police uniform and carrying what may or may not be a badge. He says he is the Chief of Police and he is going to conduct a search of the house now. All of you...um...individuals who scoff at the "birthers" are running around talking about how he doesn't seem to have a proper warrant, but if he does we can fill out a form 1056B in triplicate and file it 6 months after this guy leaves with half our stuff and we might be able to rectify this. The birthers are the guys saying, "Hey, is anybody sure this guy is really a cop?"

As long as you include the fact that the cop won a widely publicized election and that he’s accepted by the public at large as being the Chief of police and has all of the power that comes with that, then your analogy’s fine with me freak. :)

Kudos for the correct analogy. You nailed it.

GREAT analogy!

Actually, in your analogy, the “Chief” is already in the house and the birthers are standing around arguing that he should never have been let inside instead of focusing on preventing him from taking anything.
