President Barack Obama wants former chief of staff Rahm Emanuel to stay on the Chicago mayoral ballot, a top presidential confidante said Tuesday.
I think that [Obama] believes that [Emanuel] is eligible, and that he believes that Rahm will pursue his appeal in the courts, said Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to Obama and fellow Chicagoan, on ABCs Good Morning America.
As the president said when Emanuel left the White House last fall, Obama still thinks Rahm will make a terrific mayor, Jarrett said.
An appellate court ordered Monday that Emanuels name be removed from the ballot because he did not meet the one-year residency requirement to be eligible for the Feb. 22 general election. The debate over Emanuels eligibility hinges on the nearly two years Emanuel spent working in the Obama White House and the fact that he rented out his Chicago house.

King Obama I has spoken. So be it spoken, so be it done. It is petty to get bogged down in eligibility matters. They were meant to apply only to the opposition guys anyway.
Sorry, that line needed editing.
Chicago - Washington DC, Hawaii - Kenya, what’s the difference? We’re all citizens of the world now, right? /sarc
Maybe the Whiner In Chief will just hold his breath until they do.
Or Tsar of Chicago.
Rhymes with Zhivago
‘Obama wants.’ Sort of reminds me of — “Flounder, now my wife wants to be Pope.”
Eligibility is more of a “feeling” than an actual rule. Rules are mean.
If Obammy is supporting Rahm over Carole Moseley Braun, does that make him a racist Uncle Tom?
This man seems to be able to focus on local politics and local issues but when it comes to running the country he is in over his head.

You’ve got that lefty shtick down pat - you can take it on the road now. Thanks for the laugh.
Obama said:
“So what if Rahm’s not eligible to run for mayor.”
“I’m not eligible to serve as Commander-in-Chief, but here I am in the Oval Office with my feet up on the Resolute Desk.”
One would think that a sitting President should refrain from commenting on an active court case.
Another "O" that infests our civilization.
Yes, to a lefty, rules are “mean”.
They are actually a stumbling block to the intellectually enlightened to be able to use their discretion in every situation to provide a “fair” outcome.
Of course, being “intellectually enlightened” also means you would NEVER use this power of discretion to do anything “unfair” to people you don’t like.
Just askin!
Well, then he better make some calls to Illinois’ Supreme Court.
I’m sure he has some chits on them.
