The "straw poll" was open only to the 426 registered members of the Republican committee, and 65 percent of those commitee members participated.
The take away: Romney's still the solid frontrunner here, but there's plenty of room for another Republican to break through here. Pawlenty's showing was also impressive, given how new he is to the scene. He has, however, been working New Hampshire, as have his suporters.
The Republican committee members were also asked to pick the issue that was the "most important for the Republican nominee to focus upon":
Reducing the size of the federal government: 49 percent Reducing the size of federal debt/deficit 15 percent Stimulating the economy to create jobs; 14 percent Repealing health care: 7 percent

DeMint-Bachmann 2012!
Yeah. Tom Harkin won Iowa big. Massachusetts senator Paul Tsongas won New Hampshire big. So did Magical Mike Dukakis and Sen. John Kerry. The most populated part of NH has become a suburb of of Massachusetts. For two years we have to hammer that home. ANYONE from Massachusetts winning NH should be severly discounted because he’s pretty much a local.
For Romney, wins in Michigan, Utah, Nevada, Massachusetts should be discounted.
Attention republican leadership!!! I am voting for Sarah Palin eben if it is with my cold dead hands or crawling over broken glass!!!!
RINO Romney.
Whoopidoo.
Anybody for a 3rd party?
Mee, too.
The most important thing that happened in NH was the election of the tea party nominee as Chairman of the Republican Party in NH.
Same thing just happened in WA state.
And in the RNC.
The vote in the NH straw poll was pretty much limited to establishment northeastern Republicans. Romney can’t be dismissed though. I’ve said before and I’ll say again that I see more scenarios in which Romney is the GOP nominee than with any other candidate.
When in hell are we finally going to stop giving puny NH and agricultural welfare-case IA such a huge voice in the nominations?
I don’t know what it is with the two Mormons Dirty Hairy and Mitt.
Romney winning in NH is like Huck winning in AR. NBD................
I am voting for Sarah Palin in 2012....even if I have to write her name in....I am done with voting against a candidate.......or voting for the lessor of 2 evils.....
Reminds me of that pathetic Dixville Notch, N.H. farce every 4 years. Literally 7 people or something like that vote in Dixville Notch and their soooo proud to be first. That’s how desperate the media is to control and liberal-ify voting results. Hey New Hampshire: GET OVER YOURSELF.
What? Reid is a socialist, Mitt is and always has been a liberal socialist Republican. Mormonism is a social( socialists ) notions akin to Shakers( no sex ), Oneida Colony( free sex ). Plus Mitt comes from Mormon elite ( Pratt ) and he’s been groomed by his father and Mormon elite to work/buy/warp/make the sale/do what he has to do to be the first Mormon President.
But liberty? Freedom? Small government? Less top down/force down control? No. Freek’n. Way.
It is crazy for this country to allow a Yankee Progressive state like New Hampshire to have first shot at picking a Candidate for President.
All primary’s should be on the same day, we should all have a chance to pick who our candidate should be.
Romney touts NH as his HOME STATE yet got
ONLY 35% of his 270 best friends?
BYE BYE ROMNEY.
Ooop!
1924 should read 1964.
My bad.
