The Memphis Democrat has been called out by Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show" for his "wrong" choice of words. He's gone toe-to-toe with Anderson Cooper on CNN, who called him a hypocrite. Rush Limbaugh called him "pathetic." And people across the spectrum have called on him to apologize.
His newfound notoriety stems from a Tuesday night speech in which Cohen called Republicans' talking point about "a government takeover of health" the kind of repeated "big lie" Nazi propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels perfected.

House Dem compares GOP health care case to Nazi propaganda
Say What? Democrat Compares Republicans to Nazis

ABC News Jonathan Karl reports: The newfound civility didnt last long. Political rhetoric in Congress doesnt get much nastier than the words of one House Democrat during the debate on repealing the health care law.
In an extraordinary outburst on the House floor, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) invoked the Holocaust to attack Republicans on health care and compared rhetoric on the issue to the work of infamous Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.
They say its a government takeover of health care, a big lie just like Goebbels, Cohen said. You say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, and eventually, people believe it. Like blood libel. Thats the same kind of thing. And Congressman Cohen didnt stop there.
The Germans said enough about the Jews and people believed itbelieved it and you have the Holocaust. We heard on this floor, government takeover of health care. Politifact said the biggest lie of 2010 was a government takeover of health care because there is no government takeover, Cohen said.
Cohen made his comments late last night, but they have attracted no attention because his speech was made to a virtually empty House chamber with no reporters around to watch.

Dem. Rep. Steve Cohen (TN) I submit to you, Mr. Speaker, that the parties have differences. But if you want change, you want the Democratic Party. Barack Obama was a community organizer like Jesus, who our minister prayed about. Pontius Pilate was a governor. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Lawmaker: Thank God Bush is gone
July 22, 2010,
There are many Democrats and at least a few Republicans on Capitol Hill who say theyre glad former President George W. Bush is no longer in office, but Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) this week went one step further: He thanked the Almighty for it.
Cohen took to the House floor on Tuesday, where he delivered remarks titled Thank God Bush is Gone.
Cohen blamed the 43rd president for the financial crisis, calling him Hoover George Bush, after former president Herbert Hoover.
Now all [people] can say is Bush is gone, Cohen said, Nobody can defend him.
The lawmaker took a few more swipes at the former president over tax cuts and the Iraq war before concluding, Now all they can say is that hes gone. Thank God hes gone.
Career Politician, never held a real job.

Stephen Ira Stevo Cohen (born May 24, 1949) is the U.S. Representative for Tennessees 9th congressional district, serving since 2007. He is a member of the Democratic Party. He previously served as a Tennessee State Senator for 24 years.
Tennessees 9th district includes almost three-fourths of Memphis. Cohen is Tennessees first Jewish congressman. Cohen is the only non-black representing a black majority district in Congress.[1]
While serving for three years as Legal Advisor for the Memphis Police Department, Cohen rose to political prominence when he was elected to the Tennessee Constitutional Convention of 1977 at the age of 27. The Convention elected him its vice president.[6] Cohen was then elected to serve as a commissioner on the Shelby County Commission, an office he held from 1978 to 1980.[2] During his time at the Commission, Cohen was instrumental in the creation of The Med, a community-funded regional hospital.[6] In 1980, Cohen served as an interim Shelby County General Sessions Court judge.[2] He has also served as a delegate to the 1980, 1992, and 2004 Democratic National Conventions.[2]

Dems like Cohen use words, Goebbels used a lot of words therefore, Cohen is like a modern day Goebbels.
“With ‘Nazi’ words, U.S. Rep. Cohen of Memphis known nationally”
... as a disgraceful, hystrionic liar. (the new Grayson)
You just have to look at his 30 year pro-abortion record to know that.
Rep. Steve Cohen: Tea Party Reprehenisble But My Nazi Comments Fine,(Okay To Play Nazi Card)
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2660426/posts
Did you notice that "Goebbles" pronounced [g-buhls] is pronounced by all talking heads as "GeR bels?" If they can't make the German pronounciation, "Go-bells" is good enough.
What gives? Public skools, huh?
I bet you our Pah-keeestani 0b0z0 would pronounce perfectly after a month of training.
Ironically!
Gail, the one thing they leave out is that Cohen is representative of the people of Memphis that elected him. Cohen is a white version of the most vile racist black one can imagine which is what he is.
I think the oe gives “r” sound you’re hearing. Also, the “s” at the end would be somewhat of a “z”.
Of course, I never studied German language except for my time in the many Gast Hausen when I was stationed there. I may not have heard everything distinctly and clearly over the beer.
So very true. Ottis Sanford stunned me when he called mr. nazi out over the remark. Of course he had to follow that up with the GOP lied.
When we know the opposite is true the DEMS LIE through their TEETH.
He’s the new Alan Grayson. This is the kind of mindless liberal insanity that works well in less-than-sane places like San Francisco, Chicago, and New York. Can’t see how it’s going to play in his favor in Tennessee come 2012.
LOL!
I hear a distinct "R" and yes its "Z" sound for the "S."
I had a six months private course in German and lived in Braunschweig, W. Germany (then) for sometime.
I don't want his apology. I want him to keep talking.
I hate phony apologies. We don't need more civility from uncivil people, we need to identify them and defeat them.
Umlauts in German take some getting used to.
I was taught, “form your mouth to say `oh’ (or `oo’) but actually say `ee’”. Works, sort of.
Anyway, Cohen is a loudmouthed jerk who has just outgraysoned Grayson. What an accomplishment.
