House Dem compares GOP health care case to Nazi propaganda

Say What? Democrat Compares Republicans to Nazis
http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2011/01/abc-news-jonathan-karl-reports-the-newfound-civility-didnt-last-long-political-rhetoric-in-congress-doesnt-get-much.html

ABC News Jonathan Karl reports: The newfound civility didn’t last long. Political rhetoric in Congress doesn’t get much nastier than the words of one House Democrat during the debate on repealing the health care law.

In an extraordinary outburst on the House floor, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) invoked the Holocaust to attack Republicans on health care and compared rhetoric on the issue to the work of infamous Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.

“They say it’s a government takeover of health care, a big lie just like Goebbels,” Cohen said. “You say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, and eventually, people believe it. Like blood libel. That’s the same kind of thing. And Congressman Cohen didn’t stop there.

“The Germans said enough about the Jews and people believed it—believed it and you have the Holocaust. We heard on this floor, government takeover of health care. Politifact said the biggest lie of 2010 was a government takeover of health care because there is no government takeover,” Cohen said.
Cohen made his comments late last night, but they have attracted no attention because his speech was made to a virtually empty House chamber with no reporters around to watch.

Dem. Rep. Steve Cohen (TN) – I submit to you, Mr. Speaker, that the parties have differences. But if you want change, you want the Democratic Party. Barack Obama was a community organizer like Jesus, who our minister prayed about. Pontius Pilate was a governor. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Lawmaker: ‘Thank God’ Bush is gone

July 22, 2010,

There are many Democrats and at least a few Republicans on Capitol Hill who say they’re glad former President George W. Bush is no longer in office, but Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) this week went one step further: He thanked the Almighty for it.

Cohen took to the House floor on Tuesday, where he delivered remarks titled “Thank God Bush is Gone.”

Cohen blamed the 43rd president for the financial crisis, calling him “Hoover George Bush,” after former president Herbert Hoover.

“Now all [people] can say is Bush is gone,” Cohen said, “Nobody can defend him.”

The lawmaker took a few more swipes at the former president over tax cuts and the Iraq war before concluding, “Now all they can say is that he’s gone. Thank God he’s gone.

Career Politician, never held a real job.

Stephen Ira “Stevo” Cohen (born May 24, 1949) is the U.S. Representative for Tennessee’s 9th congressional district, serving since 2007. He is a member of the Democratic Party. He previously served as a Tennessee State Senator for 24 years.

Tennessee’s 9th district includes almost three-fourths of Memphis. Cohen is Tennessee’s first Jewish congressman. Cohen is the only non-black representing a black majority district in Congress.[1]

While serving for three years as Legal Advisor for the Memphis Police Department, Cohen rose to political prominence when he was elected to the Tennessee Constitutional Convention of 1977 at the age of 27. The Convention elected him its vice president.[6] Cohen was then elected to serve as a commissioner on the Shelby County Commission, an office he held from 1978 to 1980.[2] During his time at the Commission, Cohen was instrumental in the creation of The Med, a community-funded regional hospital.[6] In 1980, Cohen served as an interim Shelby County General Sessions Court judge.[2] He has also served as a delegate to the 1980, 1992, and 2004 Democratic National Conventions.[2]

Gail, the one thing they leave out is that Cohen is representative of the people of Memphis that elected him. Cohen is a white version of the most vile racist black one can imagine which is what he is.

What's he complaining about? The ‘American Civil Liberals Union’ went to the US Supreme Court to support the rights of Nazis to march, give speeches, hand out literature and even wave their swastika. Those not recalling the actual events will surely recall them as parodied in The Blues Brothers. Liberals throughout the land defended the self-styled Nazis, (falsely) citing Voltaire: I detest what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. Obama's own state's Supreme Court then ruled that even waving the swastika was protected First Amendment speech, not "fighting words" and let all proceed in Obama's own community. By their own explicit rules, even if we were Nazis that wouldn't be sufficient to stop us from speaking! What's become of the once lauded civility of liberals? Have they all forgotten their own pasts? They once supported free speech, but used SNL humor to smite a message they detested. Are they, and their SNL, too pathetic to do the same today?

He’s the new Alan Grayson. This is the kind of mindless liberal insanity that works well in less-than-sane places like San Francisco, Chicago, and New York. Can’t see how it’s going to play in his favor in Tennessee come 2012.

The fact that this guy is Jewish makes it even more reprehensible. I learned a lot about liberal Jews during the 2008 election but obviously there is always someone to lower the bar even further: The smug arrogance of one who thinks he is above the political process and can slander whomever he wishes with impunity. Time for the Volunteer State to deal a blow for truth and decency in 2012.

people across the spectrum have called on him to apologize.

I don't want his apology. I want him to keep talking.

I hate phony apologies. We don't need more civility from uncivil people, we need to identify them and defeat them.

And the total number of babies killed under this “legalized” murder is how many? And the Holocaust was responsible for how many total deaths? Dangerous ground we are walking on, don’t you think?

Mr. Cohen is like the little leprechaun who likes attention. I just remember him as the rabid proponent of the lottery in Tennessee. I’m sure there’s a lot more garbage there, but these Democrats in Tennessee make me real tired.

The words “nazi,” “holocaust,” “goebbels,” “hitler,” and all other related epithets are one accusation from losing all of their original meaning, thanks to self-serving psychos like this idiot.

Vapid charges from vacuous morons like cohen have done immeasurable violence to the English language, and have totally rendered many formerly useful words totally without impact.

Liberals bear the blame for this. And they continue.

We can only hope that republicans understand that being branded any of the supposed epithets in vogue among liberals means nothing. But if history is any guide, they will run scared of the nazi label and give odious frauds like cohen a victory.

The term "NAZI" refers to Hitler's "National Socialist Party."

How about that?

America's Democrats are -- most definitely -- American Socialists.

Fine little Apparatchnik that he is...he, of course understands and supports socialisism in ALL its forms...National Socialists, International Socialists, Democratic Socialism, etc.,

Moses Mordecai Levy (otherwise known as Karl Marx) would be proud of him.

Despicable little pr*ck.

What gets me is why John Boehner and every other Republican in the House didn’t IMMEDIATELY get to their feet and verbally bitch-slap the little weasel.
