According to a National Rifle Association (NRA) email alert sent to its Virginia members today, "[o]n January 14, Governor McDonnell issued a directive to the [Virginia] Department of Conservation and Recreation to cease enforcement of § 4VAC5-30-200 which prohibits open carrying of firearms in State Parks and has immediate effect."
This action follows though on a legal opinion McDonnell issued as state Attorney General regarding the state regulation banning open carry in state parks in which he declared that "[a] persons right to carry a firearm openly is considered universal within the Commonwealth." . . .

What a guy. We need open carry in Georgia. Hopefully soon as we now have a Republican majority in both State Houses and a GOP governor.

Ceasing enforcement is good, but what about the next person that holds office? Repeal the law altogether would be better.

If you get caught on the blue ridge parkway, remember parts of it are federal. Other than that, no problem.

How about prosecuting arresting officers, and prosecuting DAs, and Judges who do not throw the case out under
Conspiracy Against Rights?

I have not known of anyone charged except on the parkway.

“my wonderful governor”
Mine too! Hampton Roads here. Gov. McD is awesome. What a major improvement over the two DNC mouthpieces who preceded him!

A cop told us GA was open carry but then later my fiancee’ read something online that said to open carry in GA you had to have a CCP.

McDonell is a good man. Fascinating to look back in history to the others that
held his position.

FINALLY - a Governor who SHOOTS STRAIGHT with his citizenry!
To: La Lydia
His name should be part of the discussion on potential POTUS candidates. I won’t be surprised if he runs.

Well, well, well. He’s turning out to be a better Governor than I expected.
And giving credit where due: this would have never happened without the ongoing efforts of VCDL.

And that would be correct, you need the GFL to carry pistols concealed or open, other than that you can "transport" your weapon around in your vehicle.
Although the gun permit and laws are better than they were a few years ago, much work is left to be done. We are looking to push-back even more this year, working towards Constitutional Carry. So if you haven't joined Georgia Carry.Org yet, do so... we have some good legislators in there this year, so lets all press hard.
See ya in the fight, AOV

BTW we are holding another "Restore The Constitution" Open Carry Rally at Little Five Points in Atlanta this weekend (10-12 on Sat), so even if you can't carry yet, drop on by and meet other active patriots, who are willing to step up and be counted. Although you can't carry a pistol without the permit, in Georgia you CAN carry a rifle! and/or a sign to show your defense of the Second Amendment. ;-)
Restore The Constitution Rally
Hope to see you there, and pass the word on!
