Former President George H.W. Bush will endorse Republican Roger Williams this afternoon for the U.S. Senate seat that Kay Bailey Hutchison now holds.
The race to succeed Hutchison, who is not seeking re-election, has drawn interest from a number of Republicans, including railroad commissioners Elizabeth Ames Jones and Michael Williams. Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst is also considering a run.
Roger Williams is a Weatherford car dealer and former Texas secretary of state who was a major Republican donor before he was a candidate.
The Bush endorsement could give his campaign a nice boost, particularly since the field is crowded and Williams doesnt have the statewide name recognition of someone like Dewhurst, who has held statewide office since 1999. A high-profile endorsement can be particularly helpful early in a campaign as a candidate tries to build momentum and attract donors.

“But if the globalist, Mexican pandering Bush Klan is backing this guy, its not in his favor in my book.”
Yup. That’s how I feel. (I’d also add “panda hugger” to that list).
I guess some of us are on this site simply to flame...
She's very impressive as a candidate, and would make a great Senator.
No. Wrong.
Wrong Williams.
Michael Williams is the Tea Party fav.
This will ruin Williams, a GHWB endorsement. Not worth more than 20,000 votes in Harris County
Jones had the House seat in San Antonio now held by Joe Straus. I don’t think she is conservative. But I really don’t know.
