Former President George H.W. Bush will endorse Republican Roger Williams this afternoon for the U.S. Senate seat that Kay Bailey Hutchison now holds.
The race to succeed Hutchison, who is not seeking re-election, has drawn interest from a number of Republicans, including railroad commissioners Elizabeth Ames Jones and Michael Williams. Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst is also considering a run.
Roger Williams is a Weatherford car dealer and former Texas secretary of state who was a major Republican donor before he was a candidate.
The Bush endorsement could give his campaign a nice boost, particularly since the field is crowded and Williams doesnt have the statewide name recognition of someone like Dewhurst, who has held statewide office since 1999. A high-profile endorsement can be particularly helpful early in a campaign as a candidate tries to build momentum and attract donors.

He’s not tea party?
Don’t know a thing about this race.
But if the globalist, Mexican pandering Bush Klan is backing this guy, its not in his favor in my book.
who was a major Republican donor before he was a candidate.
Sez it all - Establishment Flunky.
What has he done since he founded Rhode Island?

If I were in Texas I’d go with that guy myself - different Williams, however, which could complicate trying to get name ID for the right candidate.
Compassionate conservative n: One who takes others' money in order to show compassion toward them.
That didn’t take long. So, Texans, what can you tell us about this person GHWB just couldn’t wait to endorse?
I have personally met and talked with Elizabeth Ames Jones and was very impressed. I will support her candidacy.
Not really. I heard him speak at a local Republican do in 2010, and was profoundly unimpressed. He did not really make me think he was in favor of smaller government — just a different set of nannies. As far as I am concerned he is the wrong Williams. Michael Williams is my first choice at this point.
Mind that Roger Williams is better than Bill White (the likely Democrat candidate), but that's like saying a head cold is better than cholera. I'd vote for Roger Williams in the general election, but it would not glad choice, and I would rather see him tagged out in the primary.
Michael Williams? Him I would vote for gladly.
Does anyone in Texas still care what the Compassionate Conservative Clan thinks about politics? Does anyone in Texas really think that the GOP needs another squishy big spender as their representative?
Texas has the most left-leaning Republican Senators in the country (Yes, including Maine) Will this be more of the same?
I thought he was dead..................
Ha! You beat me to it!
Old man Bush supports this guy......who does Sarah Palin and the T-Party support?
OK then: I’m all for Michael Williams if Bush is for Roger.
He sounds great—except for his Bushian stand on immigration.
