Long past the time when it was debunked that Tucson shooting suspect Jared Lee Loughner might have been motivated by talk radio or TV, NPR was still entertaining the "vitriol" attack line, as anchor Scott Simon interviewed liberal St. Petersburg Times TV critic Eric Deggans on Saturday morning's Weekend Edition. Simon even bizarrely claimed that this kind of violence didn't happen when "63 million people watched Walter Cronkite every night."

This guy is an absolute idiot. Apparently he didn’t do a search of the internet. (we know he doesn’t read books)
Sarah Palin has a time machine you know.
Yeah they did, most of them were over in Vietnam instead of here, after the Viet Cong ‘won’ the Tet offensive.
Don’t forget the failed attempt on Gerald Ford and the shooting of George Wallace - all during Uncle Walter’s tenure. It’s like Ann Coulter observed, “for liberals, history starts today.”
Don’t forget the shooter at the University of Texas.
While we’re at it the Univ. of Texas Clocktower shooting in ‘66.
Of course, back then, the professors returned fire with their hunting rifles (kept in their offices), which probably kept the casualties lower than they otherwis would have been.
How much am I paying for this cr@p?
Yeah, I'm a dweeb.
I don’t think Walter Crankcase had anything to do with it. People were watching Ozzie and Harriet, Leave It to Beaver, Gunsmoke and Bonanza around that time.
I never watched Cronkite, I couldn’t stand to listen to that communisp piece of shit!
Charles Whitman (the tower sniper) in 1966
Here’s a list of Presidential assination attempts and plots from [I know] Wikipedia:
CHARLES WHITMAN: THE TEXAS TOWER SNIPER

He might want to read up on Andrew Kehoe. He killed nearly 50 people (mostly children) in 1927 when he planted 1000 lbs of dynamite in a school in Bath Michigan.
Charles Joseph Whitman (June 24, 1941 Aug. 1, 1966) was a student at the University of Texas at Austin.
Whitman killed 16 people and wounded 32 others during a shooting rampage from the university’s tower on Aug. 1, 1966.

But I got these big, dark puppy eyes...
Don't ya just love everything about me anyway?
Poor Scott. He’s not much when it comes to news or commentary, but if you ever need a guy to read a poem about pussywillows, he’s your man.
Scott Simon was born in 1952 so he was probably in a self induced illegal drug coma during the Cronkite years.
