Word Origin & History
tyrant
c.1300, “absolute ruler,” from O.Fr. tyrant (12c.), from L. tyrannus “lord, master, tyrant “ (cf. Sp. tirano , It. tiranno ), from Gk. tyrannos “lord, master, sovereign, absolute ruler,” a loan-word from a language of Asia Minor (probably Lydian); cf. Etruscan Turan “mistress, lady” (surname of Venus).
“In the exact sense, a tyrant is an individual who arrogates to himself the royal authority without having a right to it. This is how the Greeks understood the word ‘ tyrant ‘: they applied it indifferently to good and bad princes whose authority was not legitimate.” [Rousseau, “The Social Contract”]
The spelling with -t arose in O.Fr. by analogy with prp. endings in -ant . Fem. form tyranness is recorded from 1590 (Spenser); cf. M.L. tyrannissa (1372).

Wow! I thought it was pretty tyrant!
well I can't stand kittie haters...They can KMA as well...
The only criticism I would offer over the Rudy purge is that it could have been done sooner.
The rudybots had swallowed the MSM lie about Rudy being the only one who could beat She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named hook, line, and sinker. They were in a blind panic. No amount of reasoning would get through to them.
They would get rude and extremely mean to anyone who disagreed with them. AMF to them.
All I can say is, “It’s a free country (at least for now) so, if you wish, have at it.”
My feelings are hurt. The troll left me off his spam list.
I cannot wait until this next election cycle. A lot of the trolls and RINOs have been given the boot, which should allow for some good, hometown conservative commentary.
Has Jim Thompson seen this?
OK, so more ankle-biters, but still, if you’re taking flak, you’re over the target.
Bravo Zulu, as always.
I got it too - and I’m on very few ping lists...
Well, to each his (or her) own, I guess, but as one of your “cronies” I think I’ll skip the invite.
If someone is really proud of the work they do in setting up their own board, why wouldn’t they use their real name? And why not just come right out and say what’s bothering them publicly? Opuses have been posted before, and usually they aren’t pulled.
All this seems both sneaky and cowardly.
Who the heck is this moron?
Someone find out.
Even though I'm sitting here in the lunch room all by myself, with nary an invitation from TrueBlue, it can KMA too.
You're a treasure Jim, and you and your family are owed a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.
You’re our Father in Freepdom. I appreciate all you’ve done for conservatism, and continue to do. Probably putting up with us when we get our undies in a knot is the most difficult.
BTW, if you’re a petty tyrant, then you are my favorite petty tyrant. FReep on Freepin on.
Now we can spend the rest of the afternoon trying to figure out who the disgruntled former freeper is.
Golly! I didn’t get one! I feel so....so....LOL. Guess they knew what I’d say.:-)
Jim, I’ve never had a problem with the way you run things. In fact you’ve done an excellent job. You are a true patriot. I figure it’s your website you can do what you darned well please. I totally agree with you. I will never understand this kind of thinking. It’s like owning your own home, someone who doesn’t own the home comes in and doesn’t like the way your doing something or suggests you do something different and when you don’t they get mad. IT’S YOUR FREAKIN HOUSE.
I didn’t get it. I wonder if I should feel bad that I’m not even wanted by the guys setting up the alternative websites.....
I am gonna check if he will allow threads about CHEESE after I take a shower.
Correction. The term was petty tyrant.
I think you need to work your self up from petty tyrant to tyrant. Maybe even acheive Tyrant First Class.
Just sayin'.

Something like: "Since Jim Robinson can't accomodate everyone, and prefers to keep Free Republic on the straight and narrow, I've set up [another Website] to accomodate those whose conservatism clashes with his. Fighting roomates often make good neighbours once they're no longer too close to each other. That's who I'm setting up [the other Website] for: good neighbors who don't fit the bill for houseguests."
