My synopsis of the story:
1) The local Spring Valley, New York police and DEA raid the home of David McKay.
2) The raid resulted in the family being literally dragged out of bed and officers threatened they would kill the family dog.
3) David McKay was dragged out in the snow in his underwear and questioned about the whereabouts of the man they were looking for.
4) The DEA warrant was for a man who lived several houses a way.
5) The family's 8th grade daughter was removed from bed, dragged down the staircase, and held at gun point which resulted in her having an asthmatic attack and being transported to the hospital.
No officer or DEA agent has been suspended, fired, or even reprimanded for the mistake.

Warrant? What kind of warrant, an arrest warrant?? If it was a search warrant, the warrant must specify clearly the home to be searched (raided). If an arrest warrant they have to know the person is there before pounding down the door and terrorizing anyone.
This is clearly a bunch of thugs with badges believing because they have the blue and gold they can do whatever they want, the public be damned. Sorry chumps, you need to get personally sued for this one.
In any case, this happened late at night, so the euphanism knock and talk is BS. It is knock and storm troop.

What would really happen, is that insurance companies wouldn’t write policies for cities with SWAT teams.

I meant to reply to the article, not to you. The article said they had a warrant but did not specify the type unless I missed that.
I looked this up on Google Earth. It appears to be an apartment complex.

I would go one step further and tell them to contact a financial planner because they will need one after their sttlement.................disgusting.............
Most of the police, and many citizens, in these NY State towns know perfectly well who is dealing drugs. They probably busted the wrong house to give the actual drug dealer ample time and warning to move his product.
I laugh at the token local drug busts and yearly police statements about how this year they are really going to make a big dent the drug business. I guess they are so busy writing tickets for seat belts and expired inspection stickers they don't see the drugs sales going on a block away.
Horrible story. What a terror for this family. Stories like this seem to be getting more frequent. I don’t hear the civil liberties crowd saying much though. They were too concerned over Bush and Cheney taking away our rights I guess.
I probably not the only one also who is wondering where is the balance in law enforcement?? All these cops descended onto this neighborhood. Meanwhile out in Tucson that nutjob gave off every signal that he was a living time bomb who would strike at any time and law enforcement (that means you sheriff) did nothing!
What does that accomplish?

While I am not the type of person who yells SUE THEM, SUE THEM... you are right that this is the case for the family to SUE THEM. If the town has to write a big, fat check then they will change how the police go about knocking down a door and terrorizing an innocent family. Suing simply causes policy change and this case screams for policy change. Just a thought.
Where is the ACLU on this? Oh, never mind.
If “they” want you, they’ll get you and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it. I wonder just how far we the people will allow this government to go. What will be the straw that brakes the camel’s back?
They spend all that time on trailing the bad guys and getting the dirt on them and putting together a dossier on them with pictures and graphics but they can't be bothered to include a pic of the house during the briefing before the raid?
At least the dog lived this time.
That should be improved on, that is a horrible mistake, but if you stop enforcing the law you will turn the country into an episode of “Escape From New York”.
I live nearby. FWIW, Spring Valley is, um, well, let’s just say, you live there because you have to.
What happens when rank and file officer break the law they were sworn to uphold?
Apparently nothing. They can violate your basic rights without a warrant and go unpunished. It damages the public’s view of law enforcement if they are not held to the same standards as the public they protect.
That's the scary part; we LOVE it! We crave authority. The majority of this country cheered Waco and that thug putting the machine gun in Elian's face. You'll never hear cases like this or the daily dog shootings on talk radio. They know they'd lose affiliates for being "anti-cop".
The American sheeple are getting what they want ("American" in geography only).
This family lucked out. The SWAT goons only threatened to shoot the dog. I’m sure they’ll get a reprimand from their superiors for not following through.
