An ex-Weather Underground radical on the Tucson shootings and political violence
By Mark Rudd
Sunday, January 16, 2011
In 1970, when I was 22 years old - the same age as Jared Loughner - I was a founder of the Weather Underground, an offshoot of the antiwar group Students for a Democratic Society. That spring, a small contingent of the Weathermen, as we were known, planned to plant three pipe bombs at a noncommissioned officers' dance at Fort Dix, N.J. Our intention was to remind our fellow Americans that our country was dropping napalm and other explosives on Vietnam, killing hundreds of thousands of civilians. I wasn't among the bombmakers, but I knew what was in the offing, and to my eternal shame, I didn't try to stop it.
I considered myself an agent of necessity in a political revolution. I'm not sure if Loughner, who seems to suffer from mental illness, can be considered an agent of anything. But I'm sure that if, as alleged, he pulled the trigger, he had convinced himself that he was doing what needed to be done.

WaPo does not allow comments in this article. Gee, I wonder why?
” ... bombs, assembled in a New York townhouse, exploded prematurely. Ted Gold, Diana Oughton and Terry Robbins - three brilliant and passionate young people who had decided that they must become terrorists - were killed.”
And they blowed up real good! Unfortunately, Rudd, Dorhen and Ayers were not present.
Every stupid hippie associated with the `New Left’ wasted their lives. Good riddance!
Now, back to our regularly scheduled civility.
PS “to my eternal shame, I didn’t try to stop it.”
Absolute horse s***.
(PPS NOW we return you to our scheduled civility)
Ah, Mark Rudd. Satan is waiting for you!
That's all I needed to hear. Two peas in a pod.
William Ayers gained a PhD in Education...and became a prominent, yea, a leading "expert" on secondary school curricula -- consulting with school districts and state boards all across the country.
I wonder exactly what impact he's really had on our public education system. It's for the worse, no doubt. But just how much damage did he do...???
The FRAKING WASHINGTON POST gives this guy SPACE? And pays him to explain his TREASON?
And we are supposed to say, “Oh. That’s OK?”
Who the hell are you a$$clowns? You want MY money? You want me to think you a LEGITIMATE ‘news’ source?
Gee, how do I know that?
“I doubt that he cares much about who won the 2010 midterms or who will win the presidency in 2012. I doubt that a man who seems so confused and desperate cares much about ideology. Sarah Palin and her cross-hairs map deserve nothing but ignominy”
How dare you.
Sarah, the Beltway on both sides have your name everywhere, and now they want to associate it with an honest-to-goodness terrorist, courtesy of the “Washington Post.”
People such as Rudd and including the likes of Ayers and his lady Bernadine, tried to smash part of our society. Yet, they crawl away to elegant hotels, shop at well run supermarkets, enjoy heat, light and warmth in their houses or apartments. They carry on in some sedentary occupation and are well paid. They have the best of medical care. The police will come if they dial 911.
How in the name of reason did they expect these things to still exist if they even succeeded in blighting just twenty five percent of our structural society?
It was said once many years ago and in another country, "In the name of God go!" Too late Mr Rudd.
Uh, no. Nobody knows the number, but it's likely not "hundreds" of thousands in the plural. He still doesn't get it
That’s why all of them stay here. The Hollywood Left? Remember how they all “threatened” to go to USA or Europe? (note how they always pick white countries?)
They’re spoiled brat children, hiding behind mommy and daddy as they shout insults to the neighbors, the cops, the passers by, the postman.
Sounds to me like Rudd atoned for his sins and has turned his life around. I thought it was a well written story.
Then you forgive him. I hope he rots in hell.
Guess it's hard to find a Starbucks there, or a descent Whole Foods.
I didn’t read a shred of humility or regret in that article. He still hasn’t “grown up” IMHO.
brilliant and passionate terrorists with mass murder in their heart
