WALL STREET JOURNAL - The lack of a clear 2012 Republican presidential frontrunner is prompting lesser-known figures to consider joining the race, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.
Instead of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney or former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, some conservative groups are looking for fresh faces and asking: Why not Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan or former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain?
Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., who is President Barack Obama's ambassador to China, has hinted he might join the Republican contest. Former United Nations ambassador John Bolton is talking up a possible bid, and Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, an early supporter of the Tea Party movement, is making her own high-profile jaunt to Iowa.
"We need a good solid conservative who can get the base excited, and that person just isn't out there right now," said Karen Beseth, a New York-based conservative blogger who is now backing Cain.
Most top Republican prospects are flawed in the eyes of many conservatives. Romney championed a Massachusetts health care overhaul that has drawn the ire of the right. Palin is seen as too divisive by many in Republican Party ranks, who cite polls showing unease toward her even in conservative circles. Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor, raised taxes while in office.

And you know this how? Mind-reading? Clairvoyance?
I’d say that based on conservative positions and the willingness to fight for them, DeMint and Bachmann are the two largest balls possessors. They are both across the board conservatves. Palin is not.
Common sense.
Huntsman is sleaze squared
This is easy. Anyone can play. Just see who the liberal media touts as ‘electable’ and you know that’s who they hope the GOP will nominate (and lose with). Then see who they consistently claim is ‘divisive’ and ‘unelectable’ and that is the candidate that can probably beat Obama. If you said “Sarah Palin” - you win! Congratulations.
Yep, that's about the response I expected. Nothing in the way of actual comments from West dismissing a run. Just the clairvoyant mind of the Oracle Pissant.
Allen West 2012!
Huntsman, who works for Obama. Yep. That’s the ticket!
*facepalm* There Are None So Blind As Those Who Will Not See.
I’ve followed Mr. West since he first came to the public eye. He is not so arrogant and audacious to run as a 1 year congressman. He ain’t Obama. I can see him running in 2016 if the GOP loses though.
Don’t know if I’m the ‘average’ American Conservative or not, but I will NOT be giving a dime to the GOP, nor any stinking RINO, nor will I vote for any stinking RINO. I will give money to and for ONLY ONE CANDIDATE. Sarah Palin. If a Huckabee or Romney are the candidate I will be off playing golf. No ifs, ands, or buts. I will not participate if she’s NOT the candidate. And don’t bother giving me all that happy HS re: we need to beat Obama. If Americans think he FU this country in the last two years, there will be open revolt in the streets 2 years from now!
Good interview with Cain here;

Definitely worth the read.
I tend to be a bit more moderate and pragmatic than most FReepers, but I’d never vote for a supposed Republican who works for a Democrat. So that Huntsman is out as far as I’m concerned. Other than that, I’m keeping an open mind for now.
Let’s play it safe and run a RINO-RINO ticket. Dole/Kemp redux.
Cain, Bolton Trump either would be my choice...
Trump is a conservative?
When did Trump switch from a D to an R?
Actually, they aren’t. Pence will be deciding by end of this month. Cain has for all intents and purposes said he’s running. Pawlenty and Gingrich have given their timelines for deciding as well already.
