WASHINGTON --Reince Priebus was elected chairman of the Republican National Committee on Friday after Michael Steeledropped his bid to stay atop the party for another two years.

Priebus clinched the victory after seven rounds, securing 97 votes, more than the 85 required to win. Steele dropped out of the race after four rounds.

"At this time, I will step aside for others to lead," Steele told the168 RNC committee members at the Gaylord Resort in National Harbor, Md. "But in so doing, I hope y'all appreciate the legacy we leave. Despite the noise -- because lord know we had a lot of noise -- despite the difficulties, we won."

You are obviously of the school of thought that believes that no matter how utterly foolish your arguments are, no matter how truly, breathlessly stupid you come across, if you get the last word in you win. My guess is that you must be a liberal, because you certainly “think” like one.

I’m done with you.

Since you are closer to the fountain, I’ll accept your affirmation of the water.

Thank you, Thumper!

Now, can you do anything to shut down the two DIPSTICKS that are battling it out above me and hi-jacking this thread? :)

Packers 42, Falcons 21. Life. Is. Good. :)

LOL

Glad life is good for ya!

The two “dipsticks” are having a tango of debate. Not something undesirable in a healthy political movement. However, the uber-dipstick really should see what the new chairman is going to do and what his “bona-fides” are before consigning the man to Hell’s fires.

What was that Ronnie Reagan said....’trust but verify’......?

I do wish the new chairman lots of luck, as he’s going to need it. The More Conservative Than Thou children have streamed from the dark recesses and are engaged in their own operations of subversion and subjugation of the GOP. I’m convinced that when Christ Jesus alights from Heaven, they’ll be demanding His long form birth certificate as proof He’s who He claims to be.

Oh, it’s going to get MUCH worse before it gets any better. No doubt.

Pitchforks and torches at the ready... :)

I think you’re right. It will get worse. There are paranoiacs and purity testers all over the place. If you disagree with them, you’re a troll, agent provocateur, a mole.....whatever. March in lockstep or face the goon squad interrogatories. And, no place is immune from their presence.

Yeah he’s the winner by default. Steele had to go and Saul A. was not acceptable.

Hopefully the legitimate concerns some have about this guy don’t come to fruition.

On the other hand we’d had nearly every elective seat in the country.

I am also a believer in "Trust, but verify."

I believe that Priebus will do a better job than Steele, but I also donated over $500 to the Scott Brown campaign only to have him vote in favor of FinReg. Like many others, I ignored Brown's less-than-conservative history in hopes that the iron of conservatism in his words was going to match up with what we needed him to in terms of deeds. Is he better than Kennedy? Of course. Is he the next conservative icon? Far from it.

For twenty years, we held our collective noses and voted for the lesser of two evils. In doing so we have steadily compromised more and more of our conservative values in favor of beating the other guy at the voting booth, and compromise of this sort has eroded our freedoms and caused us to arrive at a unique place in our nation's history. While we have been concerned with supporting the party to win elections, the other guy has been concerned with supporting the movement, in hopes of winning the country. I think that most of us have no illusions as to what a progressive victory means for America. At this point it almost seems as though we are barely still engaged in a battle between political ideologies; instead, it seems that we are increasingly engaged in a contest between good and evil.

What is the lesson we can draw from this? The same one that led conservativism to the forefront of the last elections: do not compromise on conservative values. We booted out a sizeable number of liberal republicans from local, state, and national offices precisely because of that reason alone. Conservatism carried the day, even more than the individual candidates did, and THAT is what will restore our liberty and our country.

he’ll soon be as reviled as Sarah Palin is

If he is, we'll know he's a true-blue conservative. You only take flak when you're over the target, and Barracuda has been dead on target since the day she first stepped into office... which is why she has the liberals squealing.

I have been fortunate that in our local races, we’ve had Conservatives run on the GOP tickets and not RINOs or wolves in sheep’s clothing. It took quite a few years for Pat Toomey to finally win the senate seat from PA. While Toomey is not conservative enough for my tastes, and I held my nose while casting my vote, he’ll need less holding of his feet to any fire. Unfortunately, the worthless POS Specter is going to be infecting young minds in higher education until he finally does the right thing and drops dead from some ailment or old age.

There’s entirely too much of that ~ to wit: “fruition” ~ about the crowd backing this guy. We went through that with Ken Mehlman and we lost control of Congress.
