An Ozark, MO man says he had a peculiar visit this week. Clay Bowler says an FBI agent wanted to know about any confrontations with Representative Billy Long.
Bowler, a political blogger, would attend Long's campaign events during the summer and ask political questions, even following Long to his car, hoping for answers on different topics. Tuesday, Bowler recorded the interview with the FBI. On the recording, Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott says Billy Long's staffers gave authorities Bowler's name.
Bowler understands after the shootings in Tucson the FBI is trying to be proactive in finding threats, but he says he shouldn't be on any lists, that he would never do anything violent to anyone. At the end of the recording, the FBI agent agreed that Bowler did not appear to be a personal threat to Long.
We made attempts to reach Representative Billy Long and members of his staff - as well as the FBI and Capitol Police. We can tell you, Capitol Police held a meeting with elected officials in Washington, D.C. today to talk about safety.
We're told the Greene County Sheriff was with the FBI agent in Ozark because their investigation initially said Bowler was living in Greene County.

NOTE: Billy Long is a Republican.
Yes, she was nice... to those who agreed with her. OK, I’m really trying not to be too catty or petty... but all the stuff I’m hearing — from everyone like Brewer to the rest of them saying how nice she was — is so NOT the persona Gabby presented at any number of town halls and meetings when I heard her.
She would threaten to walk out whenever things got a little rowdy (and only rowdy because she refused to meet with her constituents for so long! and then wanted to vote the opposite of the majority of her district). I personally never saw her smile at the crowd or in any sincere fashion. And even when the crowds were full of “friendlies” to her. She was a very nervous type who didn’t seem comfortable in her own skin.
You wouldn’t know it from the photos they’re printing though. The perky Katie Couric-type of photos.
Our local paper was notorious for that all these years. They’d find the best glam shot of Gabby that they could, makeup, smiling, good angle, etc. Whenever there was an article about Gabby’s opponents (Randy Graf, Jesse Kelly) or about Sarah Palin or Gov Brewer, you can’t believe the hideous, mouth-agape photos they would publish. The other day they even put one in of Glenn Beck with sweat on his brow!
When Gabby was married in 2007, the paper ran a full three page, cover of the Sunday “Accent” section, commercial for her. Detail by detail. I know we don’t have many celebrities in Tucson, but it was really galling.
And bright... my best example is the one I mentioned before... when I was sitting in the front row at the company’s townhall. She recited a badly-memorized version of global warming — it was clear that she had no idea what she was talking about. When confronted by the top scientist, she felt threatened... and had him removed a few weeks later.
Sorry, I will try to shut up now.... I’m just scared about what’s coming next after all of this worship and revisionism....
Wow... interesting post, Borax Queen. Giffords doesn't sound all that "moderate" to me after reading your comments.
FReepers: Check out Borax Queen's post #8... lots of stuff in her post about Rep. Gabby Giffords.
Thank you, nutmeg.
PING
I think that was the plan. Strike fear into the hearts of the right wing opposition.
Seriously, the left seems to be doing everything it can to censor any speech that doesn't agree with theirs. In my opinion, the only way to stop them is to speak out now more than ever. More Americans need to speak up and offer their opinions and secure their first amendment.
What a phoney baloney with the public
BUT
Russel Pearce was on TV saying how nice Gifford was to him at least
plus
You have strong suspicions but how can you prove she forced that scientist into retirement from his 29 year career. You can freepmail me if this is too sensitive
Yeah, I heard Pearce and all the politicians saying that.
I’ll FM you.
Perhaps Giffords can unite with GA Democrat Hank Johnson and they can finally solve that Guam situation.
Hank Johnson is only one of the lawmakers who should have excused himself from duty. Illness or physical and mental impairment is not to be tolerated in people who are elected to represent millions in public discourse and to vote on matters of monumental importance. Above any other job, these should have the most stringent requirements that don’t depend strictly on term lenghth.
Geez...don’t know how I messed that up. My birthday is on 11/4. Guess my fingers were ahead of my thinking or something.
The Palin derangement syndrome is seeping into all branches of law enforcement and soon anyone who opposes "the One" wil be in danger of being carted off to prison for their opposition to him, no matter how civil they are.
And his office is making no statement to the local TV (KY3), saying it is at the request of the capitol police.
Long is a CYA expert it seems.
drip ...drip ...drip
(worth repeating)
Decency and decorum in politics are over, if there ever was any. I don’t think that Giffords will be able to pull that over. We still don’t know the extent of her injuries. She may not be mentally competent to serve. But that is another issue. We should not be cowered into civility to the opposition when they practice none towards us. Diplomacy requires two actors of like mind. We don’t have that at this time and it’s time we all realize that. We should not be cowered into surrendering our goal to take the republic back to constitutionalism and individual liberty.
BTTT!
Very interesting information.
Can she keep the seat even if she is permanently disabled cognitively?
