FYI -
Here are statements from Jim about the future of FreeRepublic.com for those who missed them. They are quite serious.
===
"Well, I can say that there are definitely two things that will never happen. 1) Banner ads. 2) Oracle [a completely new database system.] And a third is a total replacement [of the current damaged system.] Dont have the financial wherewithal."
"To those who wish to leave because of it, see ya."
"If FR dies, thats that."

Hey, you want us to get an all new system with all new software and add a few more pricey techs, system programmers and database administrators to keep it all working 100% of the time 24/7/365? Well, start coughing up the big bucks.
Its going to take tens of thousands of donations and many with at least three zeros each after the comma to accomplish the task. And that would be EVERY month like clock work to make the payroll. Once you take on a big load of expensive overhead, theres no going back. As it is, we get a couple thousand donations per quarter averaging about $30 bucks each and theres no guarantees we can cover this quarters expenses much less next quarter. Were on a pay as we go system and we have zero employees. We just ask for enough to pay the bills.
Throwing more money at the problem wont solve it. [This latest glitch] was a technical issue and we just had to keep troubleshooting until we found it. And no, were not going to invite a bunch of strangers in to get their hands on our secure systems. John has been programming since he was 14 and hes pushing 40 now. He built these systems and hes an expert in them.
And no, we are not going to throw out our software and rewrite it and no were not going to move on to some other database system. There are no guarantees that any other system can do a better job and not without hiring a staff to build and maintain it and thats for sure. And we dont have the financial wherewithal to do any of that anyway. Maybe if we had a couple million bucks at our disposal and a couple years to do it in we could build an iron-clad system. And maybe not.
All I can say is, if someone else can do it better and cheaper, then please step right on up and get er done!! Ill bow out and retire. Thankyouverymuch.
Hit it boys:

And no, we have no plans of taking FR commercial. I like it the way it is. Not sure I could handle getting rich.

They aren’t doing bad today either.
You are a very mean person!
Well, considering the fact that nobody designated you as the final arbiter of what an activist site needs, I think I will continue to ignore your immature comments and suggest that it may be people like you who drive others away.
“Mann act!”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Living much of my life very near the NC, SC border I am afraid I violated that one more than once in both directions. It was my father’s fault, he kept insisting that I should grow up and act like a Mann.
But Jim is. Try reading what the OWNER has said.
Excellent!
Jim and John, would you give some thought to the idea of experimenting with a couple of conservative college students as interns? Get them from likely places by advertising for any who live in SoCal but attend Hillsdale College, or are members of Leadership Institute or the like. Check 'em out and give them limited duties, even online instead of on site, to see if it works out. If it did work out, over the next few semesters you might be able to offer to be an official internship site and use grunt labor to tackle some drone tasks like system testing or your aforementioned archives scrubbing.
More like 85 to 90 percent.
Your comment reminds me of that tv ad where a guy at a business meeting starts making fun of the boss, and then realizes the boss is tuned in on the speaker phone.
Well, you sure are a snippy little twit, aren't you. I read it but didn't let that stop me from making a recommendation on what I thought would help. Sometimes people do change their minds. Anyway, good luck with that attitude.
Agreed, but the owner has expressed strong reservations about allowing any advertising on his site. See post #588.
For now, at least, the current business model of 100% donations will stand.
Your ego knows no bounds sonny. This is Jim’s site. He has given VERY good reasons NOT making FR into a copy of a glitzy kiddie site. Adults post here. FR is slick, clean and user friendly. There is no wasted space with “feel good” add-ons.
Did you see his post about the separate foundation to raise funds to donate to FR?
“Good luck with that attitude”
ZOT, just because you don’t understand this place and apparently couldn’t care less.
Well, it seems your presumption knows no bounds either. Nobody is suggesting a glitzy kiddy sight, only a highly functional and easy to use one. BTW, some folks will tell you that you'll have better success in life if you ask questions (especially when someone offers you his or her thoughts)rather than lecture people or put them down, but I won't do that since you seem to already know it all. Once again, good luck with that attitude and I wish JR good luck with the site.
No, I hadn't seen that. I'll have to go find his post. Thanks.
Really?
POst 166 : FR needs a serious functional upgrade to include such standard features as post formatting, editing, object insertion, emoticons, etc
That is kiddie stuff. This is an adult forum. I don't need emoticons to tell people how I FEEEEEEL. I have words.
some folks will tell you that you'll have better success in life if you ask questions
I certainly didn't see you ask any. You told us how important you were and proceeded to tell us how lacking FR is.
Congratulations, Nan!!
OK, how about losing your fixation with emoticons (which greatly helped other forums) for a minute and think about ease of use functions for people who may have trouble typing or arthritis. It is called being considerate and thinking of your users. I can't believe you think ease of use won't sell. Finally, I am sure that members of another (adult touring biker) forum that does have all the features could easily demonstrate that they too have an adult forum. They also use other kiddie stuff with icons and ease of use features like iPads, iPhones, Androids, GPS, FLIR HUD devices, etc.
Beautiful, Fichori!
