Westboro Baptist Church to Picket Funeral of 9-Year-Old Tucson Shooting Victim

Speaking of hatred that knows no bounds or party affiliation, the Westboro Baptist Church, famous for picketing the funerals of slain members of the American military, has announced plans to disrupt the funeral of the youngest of yesterday’s shooting victims, 9-year-old Christina Greene.

The child was among the six fatalities that resulted from a shooting spree in Tucson by Jared Lee Loughner that left Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords hospitalized with a brain injury. Christina, who was the granddaughter of former Philadelphia Phillies manager Dallas Green, had just been elected to the student council at school. She wanted to attend the event to see real government in action.

Westboro’s founder, Fred Phelps has run in several Kansas Democratic Party primaries, but has never won. In his most successful bid, as a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 1992, he received 31 percent of the vote.

Phelps was an enormous supporter of Al Gore 1988 Democratic Party primary election and in 2003 wrote a letter to Saddam Hussein, praising his regime for being

“...Dallas Green, a former Yankee manager...”

Yeah, he managed the Yankees. But he managed the Phillies to a World Series victory in 1980. Philadelphia grieves with him.

Sick bass turds. I wish that I lived in Tucson. I’d get with some other vets and maybe have a reception committee for these lowlifes.

That's just what they are after. They are a pack of leftist lawyers going about trying to incite crowds to do something at which point they sue the municipality for failing to provide adequate protection, etc.

Any judge or lawyer who actually thinks that Phelps and gang’s actions constitute constitutionally protected free speech have shit for brains. Seriously, when’s enough enough?

They have announced they will ‘picket’ this little girl’s funeral to draw attention to their cult. They may even be planning on following through with it.

But, if the ‘right’ people were to contact them and relay a convincing message to their cult leader, then I predict that at the last minute he will announce that his ‘people’ have somewhere else they need to be on that day.

That very thing occurred in Rappahannock County, VA, in 2007, when the Westboro “Baptist” cult announced they were going to picket the funeral of one of the female victims of the mass murderer at Va. Tech. Shortly after the announcement, the cult leader was contacted by the ‘right’ people, who had a few words with him (really, just a few). The end result: A day before the funeral the cult leader announced that his “people” had somewhere else they needed to be and would NOT be picketing the girl’s funeral.

The above occurred in rural Virginia, but I am SURE that there are plenty of the ‘right’ people residing in and around Tucson...

I thought he was a Phillies manager.

Then again, I suppose he could have been both...

There you have it. Clearly, the man is insane!

No people need to immediately get protest permitts for ALL streets from Funeral Home to Cemetary. THAT is the WAY to STOP the Family from being subjected to this hate-mongering DUMocRAT.

I’d love to see Fred Phelps and company try their antics when a mostly black church has a funeral for a soldier killed in action in Iraq.

I’d bet Phelps and company would get their arses handed to them.

This is how these people were handled in a small town, at the funeral for a fallen U.S. soldier. The residents filled every parking space with vehicles and then stood in front of the one corner this group had received a permit to be. They also played loud patriotic music to drown down the leftists and held up their own pro-military, pro-American signs.

Worked as planned and this sick group just left.

So what exactly is the point in picketing her funeral other than to shout “Look at us!, Look at us!”?

Several years ago I went to a funeral in Lubbock for the second son of a family who had died overseas (one in Afghanistan and one in Iraq). I did not know the solider but went out of respect after hearing about Phelps attending. The Phelps’ idiots picketed the funeral but the Patriot Guard motorcycle group effectively separated them.

I must admit it was one of the most moving experience I have ever attended, especially when all veterans were asked to raise their hands and then requested to come forward and form a honor line by the casket. We were called to attention and gave a hand salute while taps was played. I was behind the coffin directly in front of the widow who was weeping. It was very difficult to keep my composure. When we left the church, we passed through an honor guard with the motorcyclists and others holding American flags.

You don't understand how they work. Ever wondered how they get their money to go all around the country?

They wait for someone to get angry enough to push or hit them, and then they sue for monetary damages. They always win. This horrible man, Phelps, has a daughter who is a lawyer. She has even argued for them in front of the Supreme Court.

I wished that Phelps would get rid of the word “Baptist” from the name of his church. Every “Baptist” I know, and I am Baptist, is frothing mad at Phelps and his church and wish they would shut up and go away.

I am from Tucson but am currently deployed. I would be there to stand between him and her funeral if I could be.

What a putz.

He was for both. AND the Cubs and I think the Mets.

He went head to head with the Chicago Machine over Wrigley Field lights.
