Sarah Palins use of crosshairs to target Democratic House incumbents is dangerous symbolism, Democrats say. But a party spokesman says its a stretch to compare Palins imagery to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committees use of red and white bullseyes last year to target Republican incumbents.
Broward County Democratic Chairman Mitch Ceasar played the Palin card this week when he condemned GOP congressional hopeful Allen West for urging tea partyers to make Democratic U.S. Rep. Ron Klein scared to come out of his house.
Palin endorsed West last week. So Ceasar noted that the former Alaska governor and VP nominee also recently unveiled a national political map using rifle crosshairs to mark the members of Congress across the country who supported healthcare reform.
Klein isnt on Palins map, but, Ceasar said, West and his mentor Sarah Palin are shamefully stoking violent language and symbolism that threatens the safety of our leaders and public officials.
Some in the conservative blogosphere contend theres not much difference between Palins map and the Democrats placement of bullseyes on the districts of targeted Republicans who voted against the $787 billion stimulus bill.
Said National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Andy Sere: Were waiting with bated breath for an acknowledgment that all their recent outrage has been manufactured for political gain. In the meantime, were asking Merriam-Webster to add D-C-C-C as an alternate spelling for hypocrisy.

What is truly stupid is for normal people to dumb down their language and communications to avoid upsetting the limited intellect of the "progressive crowd" of Obama/Pelosi/Reid/DU voters.
English comprehension and anger management is their problem.
Palin doesn't advocate violence.
Palin's image was that of a land surveyor's scope.
Even so, there isn't a shred of evidence that the killer saw Palin's image and there isn't a shred of evidence that the killer mistook the land surveyor's target for a gun target.
The truth is on the side of Palin.
When one walks on egg shells such as yourself, worrying about what lies and false accusations may be used against them, one as lost the battle.
Palin hasn't given the enemy a hammer to smack her with. It's her enemy who brings its own hammer and it's you who wishes to appease the enemy instead of standing up for the simple truth.
BTW, it's hypocritcal that you use the words "hammer", "smack" in describing a violent action against Palin, whilst you criticize Palin for using a land surveyors target, when she targets Democrats.
Of course I don't expect you to understand that.
Thanks for the target maps from each side.
I’ve forwarded them to a number of liberals who are screaming about right wing hate speech being the cause of violence and murder.
These two maps completely negates their frantic attempts to link all violence and death to the right.
The very fact that you are having to defend its use proves its stupidity.
When Fred Phelps protests at one of you families funerals, are you going to invite him in for tea?
It doesn’t need defending. People use metaphors like this all the time in politics, and a graphic representation of “targeting” an opponent’s district is rather mild.
I think it’s stupid for any of Palin’s people to describe them as anything other than cross-hairs. Defending it makes it sounds like it’s something that needs defense.
If I were her PR mouthpiece, (there’s a scary thought) any time it was brought up I’d say it was the printed equivalent of Obama saying “If they bring a knife, We’ll bring a gun”.
True. But, the enemy has outdone themselves this time with their vileness. This hearkens back to when they blamed the OKC Bombing on our side.
My simple point is that it was stupid imagery and was so called then...the naked truth of this is borne out by the fact of this very thread and those like it.
How silly can everyone be on both sides? Target sites and marks on a map didn’t persuade this kid to kill anyone. Both sides are so intent on blaming the other side with this silly notion of targets and cross hairs. The kid wasn’t that clever to take a hint, he was just nuts in the head.
Somebody who knows how, please send the two graphics to the Democratic Congressional idiots. You know, one with the Surveyor’s mark and scope crosshair, to show them the difference. I’m tired of seeing so many ill-informed people repeating the lie. At least they need to know that they are not fooling anybody.
L
Thanks for that. I needed a chuckle.
Not only that but those so called “crosshairs” look nothing like what I have ever seen in a rifle scope. They are more like “register marks” that I used to see on printing plates.
The bullseye looks real though and as you note the bullseye is what you shoot at, it has no other known function I am aware of other than as a target, if not for bullets then for darts, arrows etc.
Ping.
Unfortunately not in the current administration.
This on top of the DLC in 2004 and Daily Kos targeting Gabrielle Giffords in 2008.
