Boehner: “The State Of Hawaii Has Said President Obama Was Born There. That’s Good Enough For Me”

In his first interview since being sworn in as Speaker of the House, John Boehner makes it clear he has no questions about President Obama’s birth, saying “the State of Hawaii has said President Obama was born there. That’s good enough for me.”

In the exclusive interview with NBC’s Brian Williams–set to air tonight on NBC Nightly News–Boehner does not say he’ll tell members of Congress to simply put the matter of the president’s birth aside:

WILLIAMS: I’m curious as to how much responsibility you feel specifically because of something that happened this morning. During the reading of the Constitution, Congressman Frank Pallone of New Jersey was reading a portion of the document, interrupted by someone who heckled from within the chamber. It was to express doubt over the President’s American citizenship. Provided you believe the President is an American citizen, you’ve got 12 members co-sponsoring legislation that does about the same thing, it expresses doubt. Would you be willing to say, “This is a distraction, I’ve looked at it to my satisfaction. Let’s move on.”

BOEHNER: The state of Hawaii has said that President Obama was born there. That’s good enough for me.

I'm glad Boehner is focused and not distracted by the "birther" games.

The place to address this issue is at the state level by requiring documentary evidence of eligibility from candidates ahead of the next presidential election.

Making it all about Obama is the wrong strategy.

Hey, John! They said Sun Yat Sen was born there, too.

The July 27, 2009 statement and her original statement of October 2008 don’t match up. Go back and look at her official statement of October 2008. She said she saw Obama’s birth certificate and verified it was officially filed in Hawaii. She misspoke or lied in her July 2009 statement.

Will Boehner be “shocked, shocked!” at Hawaii when he learns about the other stuff that “Birthers” have known about for years?

It still hasn’t been officially established where Obama was born. Hawaiian officials are either misspeaking or lying. This needs to be settled in court.

Obama should be watched like a mad dog in any case.

Affirming his position as president (rather than simply _resident) makes impeachment on other grounds possible. I don’t know what the legal procedure is even supposed to be to oust a would be president who is discovered to have been ineligible. One can’t impeach a non-president. Every court up to the USSC has treated it like an untouchable hot potato.

Pelosi signed it for at least one state, so why LIE and say she refuses to certify his eligibility?

America crumbles around us more each day and "birthers" are obsessed with uncountable numbers of theories about why Obama isn't qualified. It's as bad as "Bush stole the election" crap from the Left. Obama is there. He's up for reelection in 2012.

People who care about the actual "natural born citizen" point should take it to their state level and enact law to require documented proof of eligibility and clarification of the term.

Repubs are already rolling over and playing dead. This is disgusting. Next we will either read or hear that Boehner is not going to call Holder into the House to explain his position on failure to prosecute the Black Panthers

Frankly, I’d rather John Boehner, and the Republicans, work on repealing and defeating Obama’s policies, no matter WHERE he was born.

So where is HI Governor AberCrombie the Commie with Obama birth certificate? LoL.

Oh, that’s right, after AberCommie claimed that it was a high priority, he went silent on the issue and he is now deflecting Obama birth certificate questions saying he is focusing on the Hawaiian economy.

Yeah sure Commie. did the Hawaiian AG tell you that Hawaii can’t prove Obama was born in Hawaii? You’ve been duped clown. The Obama DoH “vital records” are of dubious quality. They are crap.

You better find some forger and corrupt officials to make Obama an NBC, but that is an impossible task.

“America crumbles around us more each day”

Yes, because the people have been so influenced by cultural Marxism they have turned their backs on their founding document and its principles. The Constitution is paramount. Walking away from a fight on Obama’s Constitutional eligibility is cowardice.

I don't think anyone will be shocked. Except maybe Williams, Couric, MSNBC, etc. Everyone in DC is probably suspicious about his eligibility.

I can understand Boehner trying to sidestep Brian William’s set up.
There’s no upside for the new Speaker
to get entangled..at this time.
I just wish he had said something like “ There are court cases pending , I am not sure if they are the same as LTC Lakin’s ,
either way ,
it’s probably better that I don’t comment.”
That would have the first time court cases over eligibility and LTC Lakin
would have made it on air at NBC-
if they didn’t decide to just edit it all out.
Williams framed the issue as “ the President is an American citizen..”
Which is clearly not the issue .
Is Williams that stupid or just being slick ?
Boehner did not fall to William’s demand that he
order the other House members to cease and desist
and fall into the NBC line.
Williams -”..you’ve got 12 members co-sponsoring legislation that does about the same thing,
it expresses doubt.
Would you be willing to say,
“This is a distraction, I’ve looked at it to my satisfaction. Let’s move on.”

If Boehner would have said anything, that would become a huge distraction. That wasn’t the time nor the place to make this an issue.

Exactly. If our side pisses and moans every time something isn't done exactly how we wish it did, we will be as dead in two years as the Democrats are now. We can push ANYTHING though the House, but little is going to make it through this Senate. It is a 53 vote Dem majority with 4-8 pansy RINOS who can jump at any moment. We have to take joy in the victories we get and understand this is just the beginning. Today is not the day to have the new Speaker get into a birth certificate controversy. If additional evidence surfaced down the road, Boehner can restate his position.

Given that Obama is president, Birthers must now prove his INELIGIBILITY for office to have him removed from office. So, I don't have anything backwards.

Until the election of Obama, I certainly ASSUMED there were some eligibility checks. Now, I question that assumption. Could it be that all those red state election officials failed to check Obama’s eligibility in 2008? My GUESS is: Yes!

Seems to me that concerned citizens should INSIST that ALL candidates on ALL ballots should have their eligibility verified & publicly revealed. This process should occur at the STATE level, by state officials.

It could still occur, in every state, prior to the 2012 elections. Only the people can make this happen as the pols (including the judges) will never “rock the boat” on their own.

Pubs made big gains in State legislatures & governorships. Perhaps these gains could translate into tougher scrutiny of Presidential candidates in 2012 & beyond.

If Obama is ineligible to hold the Presidency, then it is obvious that most of Washington, Left & Right, has concluded that removing Obama from office costs way more than it is worth. The acts of Obama as President cannot be repealed or nullified. Our troop deployments cannot be made invalid, as an example. Nullifying a presidential election & the votes of the majority is potential chaos & political suicide. And the reward: Joe Biden as President. Not nearly worth it.
