JANUARY 5--Before becoming the countrys most distinctive new voice, Ted Williams compiled a lengthy rap sheet that landed him in several Ohio lockups on a variety of criminal charges, according to law enforcement records.
Williams, 53, has been busted for theft, robbery, escape, forgery, and drug possession. He is pictured at right in mug shots (click to enlarge) taken as a result of those Ohio collars, which stretch back more than two decades.
The convicted felons speedy rise to fame is not sitting well with one Columbus businessman who called cops on Williams and a female companion in early-July. The man, a manager at National Tire & Battery, told cops that Williams and the woman were refusing to leave the business property and had become an ongoing problem for the business, according to a police report.

Saw this guy on TV and he looks amazingly like Obama with a slightly longer and pointier chin!
Hey, maybe some of our Freepers can support this guy for president. He has a fantastic voice. It is nothing like Palin’s twangy voice.
I hope he stays clean this time and uses his new career to reach out to other troubled people! His voice is fantastic!
Just saw a clip of him, all cleaned up, sorting out his 100+ job offers. It’ll be interesting to see how long his new-found fame lasts.
Look at his mother's eyes...She loves him but has been deeply hurt also.
Ten years?? Take a bus if you want to see your mom so bad...
SO, I hate idiots that see someone that needs redemption and try to destroy it.
After that, he's on his own.
I heard this morning that he had been a radio broadcaster before the drugs and alcohol took him down. That partly explains the voice and presence.
I'm a sceptic, too.
wonder how long before her relapses and craps on those who helped him. i’d hate to see it, but I’m not too sure he’s ready for the spotlight.
i do, however wish him the best.
A Voice calling in the wilderness, ‘Go Straight!`
He looks like Sammy Davis, Jr. in the photo with his family:
Another felon gets a job in the NBA? Seems about right...
I feel this is a success story, and that this man’s past should not prevent him from rising. He has talent, and his mistakes are only those: Mistakes. If we never let a person get a chance to rise out of homelessness and drug/alcohol addiction, who are we?
Two of our local worthless djs were decrying the fact that Bristol Palin had been offered a job in AZ, while this “wronged” man was homeless and jobless (guess not any more). The djs and news readers around here love to hate anyone from the Palin family, but honestly, I’d rather listen to Bristol than this felon any day.
Your scenario is all too common. He might do better having a small time job in a small town somewhere—fame and fortune is often difficult to handle even for well-balanced people.
If you think about it, this situation is something we see everyday.
Many people idolize those with some sort of talent, ability or presence. But having a good voice or being able to act in a movie doesn’t mean they have wisdom, self control or a good heart.
