An 8-8 record, the Raiders' best mark since 2002, was not good enough for owner Al Davis, as he informed Tom Cable on Tuesday night that the team will not pick up the option in the head coach's contract.
Offensive coordinator Hue Jackson will become the head coach, a source close to Jackson said. Raiders senior executive John Herrera, however, there was no second announcement coming.

Ping.
The Raiders will suck until Al Davis quits sucking air.
How can they lose with a guy named Huge Action as their coach?
Unless and until Al Davis stays out of all football decisions, oakland will remain a mediocre minus team.
Someone should wake the old man up and mention to him that what worked in the 1970s doesn’t work today. And I think oakland dropped the “most successful franchise in sports” claim in the late 80’s, since it was no longer true.

When the opposing coach is named “Bigvs Dickvs?”
They showed him on tv the other day and he looked like he was about 120 years old.

It could be worse - he could look like Bob Barker. That dude looks like he was in a fire and the skin grafts didn’t take!
Raiders looked good at end of the season, their running game and they trounced KC 31-10 and finished 8-8. The best record in 8 years and you fire the coach, what.
Lifelong Raider fan here, and I’m still wearing the 1987 throwback Bo Jackson jersey I got for XMas from my brother.
Just when I think Al Davis can’t further surprise me, he goes and fires a coach that actually made it somewhat fun again to be a member of Raider Nation.
I live in the East Bay (not a fan of either franchise) but follow the local teams...Cable had some off the field issues last year, but made an 8-8 season and was undefeated in the AFC Western Division. A fluke loss to Jacksonville and crappy loss to the 49’ers, they would be in the playoffs.
Al Davis needs to find a nurse and drool watching Gunsmoke and Johnny Carson reruns, not own an NFL team.
Don’t forget Jano, who I love as a kicker otherwise, blowing the gamewinning FG against Arizona earlier this season.
If Al can convince Harbaugh or Gruden to coach, I’ll be fine with the upgrade. If he names Hue Jackson as coach, we know it’s just another Yes Man for Crazy Al.
Huge Action is supposedly the second coming of Bill Walsh. We’ll see.
Yep, they are doomed with him at the helm.
Since we’re talking about Al Davis, I’ll put money on a yes man.
Bet he doen’t win for another ten years too!
Right, that miss was horrible. 11-5 was achievable. In the same realm as the Colts, Chiefs and Steelers.
Weird, the QB position was not even great, but the team used its talents well.
This is Hue!
He'll probably be more like the second coming of Tom Walsh....
Do you remember him ? He thought the Madden Video Games playbooks were to fancy and complicated...........lol
