Santorum Takes Aim at Romney, Palin
Nat. Journal ^ | 1/4/11 | ALex Roarty

Posted on 01/04/2011 1:19:52 PM PST by pissant

Rick Santorum the senator didn’t shy from controversy. Apparently, neither will Rick Santorum the presidential candidate.

The former senator from Pennsylvania speaks and acts like a man working diligently to become a dark-horse favorite for president. Dark is the operative word: During an hour-long interview with National Journal last week at a busy coffee shop just blocks from the Capitol, no one appeared to recognize the potential presidential candidate.

Santorum is making up for his low profile by taking aim at better-known potential rivals: former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

In a race where nobody is officially running yet, much less regularly sniping at opponents, the remarks seem designed to help Santorum distinguish his fledgling campaign as he tries to convince conservatives he’s a viable candidate.

Palin, whose endorsements of candidates in states such as South Carolina and Alaska shaped the 2010 GOP primaries, is well-liked among Republicans, polls show, but some question whether she’s qualified to be president. Santorum came close to putting himself in that camp.

“I like her a lot, but I’m not too sure that … ,” said Santorum in the interview. He paused before restating his response.

“Let’s put it this way: I’m not waiting for her to decide whether I’m running for president," he continued. "So, to me, she’s certainly been a net plus to Republican efforts. She was a huge factor in the last election, to me mostly to the good, maybe not all to the good. But 90 percent is pretty good.”

Asked directly if Palin is qualified to be president, Santorum responded: “What does it mean to be qualified to be president? She is born in this country and she’s the right age. Those are the qualifications.”

Case in point with my earlier post. Readers will not read what you post because of your hatred, dislike, whatever you call it regarding Palin. So all you do is start arguments. Go back to seeing we hear about Duncan, Pence or whomever you supports or are you REALLY supporting Santorum, because if you are bring it......

Headline don;t not fit the article. Dodging a question about an opponent is hardly “taking aim” at them...

I guess that’s why my posts are usually flooded with replies. No one wants to read what I say. ROFL

Where do these men hear the voices? The idea of Rick Santorum as President is laugh provoking - remember Arlen Specter. What did Rick Santorum see back when he supported Specter against all common sense - Specter was a horror show then. Yet now the voices sing a song “Rick, Rick your what our wounded country needs”!

Too bad this loser didn’t take aim at the low life Specter when it counted most.

I’d like to again ask Mr. Santorum, when Pat Toomey was running against Arlen Specter for the Pennsylvania GOP Senate nomination, WHO DID HE SUPPORT and WHY?

Nice Piss. Using an ex-Senator who was resoundingly thrown out of office to ding Palin. He sure carries a lot of weight here at FR. Who was the last guy he supported in PA?

How did that work out?

Yeah, all he says is that she’s great for the GOP and conservatism. How is that “taking aim” at her? I hate it when reporters mis-write headlines to get you to read the article. Drudge does that all the time.

I think editors do this. Many is the time I see the same article with different headlines.

I’d like to ask a certain celebrity that same question regarding the CA and AZ and NH senate races in 2010.

I think he let Bush and Rove twist his arm. Big mistake. Santorum is not a bad guy and he would be 10X better than Mitt.

Oh and let’s not forget Palin backed disgusting McCain who is almost as bad as Specter.

His remarks with respect to Palin were mild. He mainly says, he’s not waiting to find out what her plans are before making his own, that he is in it whatever she does.

His criticism of Romney was mild, but on the mark. It will be hard to run Romney when running him takes Obamacare off the table as an issue.

My concerns about Santorum are simply this; that he has been awfully quiet the last two years. I am more disposed to support people who were vocal in their opposition to the Obamists up until now, and less so the ones who only want to lead during election season. It makes me think they are not particularly leaderly.

Still, I like him, and in general he is right on the issues, which is worth a lot.

urine-aunt, this quote had to make your day.

“I like her a lot, but I’m not too sure that … ,” said Santorum in the interview. He paused before restating his response.

You are too consumed with Sarah hatred to be rational, why not take a few years away from the computer and chill.

I like him OK, too. It would be a tossup for me if he and Palin were the last two standing. But that would be far better than if it was Mitt and Newt.
