frican-American political leaders rallied around former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun on Saturday as a unity candidate best qualified to be Chicago mayor, capping a holiday week of private negotiations that left her the only major black politician in the campaign.
Flanked by prominent black elected officials who dropped out and endorsed her bid, Braun told a crowd at the weekly Rainbow/PUSH Coalition meeting on the South Side that she has "the most credentials and the most qualifications and experience of all of the candidates running" to replace retiring Mayor Richard Daley.
"And so they just chose the most qualified candidate for the job," said Braun, who made history as the nation's first black female senator but dropped out of elected politics after losing her re-election bid in 1998.

Carol is corrupt enough for this. What will Rahm do now?
Take up being a star ballerina?
Chicago has the “cream of the crop” to choose from for the next “don” of the city.
Good for you...
But, as a Chicagoan, you should know that the Democratic Primary will decide who will be Chicago’s next mayor, and that November is just kabuki.
In which Illinois town do you live? I live in Northfield, and I’m the chairman of the Illinois Center Right Coalition, a statewide, conservative group that was founded in 2003. We’ll hold a meeting, this Sat. afternoon, in Mokena. Please read our site, www.illinoiscenterright.com.
...but of course RACE has nothing to do with it... it’s all about.. the (snicker) content of her (*SNORT) character!!!
ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!
Amen to that. I don't know why they bother with the annoying formalities of an election in Chicago.
Chicago won’t have a Nov. election, this year. The primaries will be on Feb. 22, and the general election will be on April 5. Chicago elections are nonpartisian, since Republicans are unlikely to win. The last time Chicago elected a Republican, for mayor, was 1927.
Piloted by union drivers, BTW.
One of my kids did cub scouts with the son of a former Moseley Braun staffer. he had to move to Texas to get away from her.
He'll have to decide if he wants to throw one of them under the bus. He'll probably just avoid the issue, thereby throwing both under the bus.
It's a big bus.
Sorry, but I live as far from Chicago as I can.
However I did spend a year in Chicago one weekend.
“African-Americans rally....”
Remember folks, its only racist when Whites do it!
Here's some of Carol's close friends.
6/9/2008 ----Ex-Military Leaders Defend Former Nigerian Military Leader Abacha (right); Deny Looting of Treasury
At a 10 year anniversary prayer session to remember the passing away of former military ruler of Nigeria, General Sani Abacha, who ruled Nigeria from November 1993 to June 1998, other former military rulers, Generals Abubakar, Babaginda and Buhari absolve him of looting the national treasury.....
Great choice - Dead Fish Emmanual or C M Braun - Democrats all! I suggest that the GOP candidate runs on the most outrageous but legal electorate bribery campaign and force the Lefties into an untenable position. That is the way the Lefties operate, so give them a dose of their own medicine and break out the popcorn.
Not the case. It's a free-for-all.
"The way the city elects its mayor has changed since [former mayor Harold] Washington's days. Candidates used to run as Democrats and Republicans, and sometimes as a hastily formed third-party choice. These days, they run without party designations, and there is no primary, just a crowded municipal election and a runoff."
Liberal, check.
Corrupt, check.
Yep, she meets Chicago’s baseline standards. Extra points on ethnicity and gender.
The Board approves. Congratulations, Madame Mayor.
The last Chicago mayoral election, that used parties, was in 1995. The Republican, Ray Wardingley, got 3% of the vote.
When the Tribune asked whether she'd ever run for office again, the departing senator replied: "Read my lips. Not. Never. Nein. Nyet."
That was end of 1998/beginning of 1999 I'm assuming.
She was against running before she was for running. If Bret Farve, The Laut, Art Bell, etc., can get away with it...
I’m in the NW section of IL, about 200 mi from Chicago. I wasn’t sure if Illinois had any Conservatives...lol. Humor helps ease the pain, you know.
BTW, loved ya in Genesis ;)
