Green skeletons lurk in GOP closets (Romney, Huckster, Palin, Pawlenty, Gingrich, Boehner, Bush)

(snip)

Dig long enough and just about every Republican has a green skeleton in their closet. Many of them have their last presidential nominee, Arizona Sen. John McCain, a longtime cap-and-trade enthusiast, to thank for it.

(snip)

"I support a reasonable cap-and-trade system," [Pawlenty] said. "I think it'd be good for the federal government to take that up rather than have states take it up as clusters of regions."

Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor, appealed to a New Hampshire audience in October 2007 on moral grounds by saying he backed a cap-and-trade system to reduce greenhouse gases and faulted the Senate for its unsuccessful efforts to pass legislation.

Even Sarah Palin has a YouTube moment. Just days after McCain picked her as his running mate, Palin told ABC News she believes human activities "certainly can be contributing to the issue of global warming, climate change" and that "we've got to do something about it, and we have to make sure that we're doing all we can to cut down on pollution."

(snip)

Romney worked for two years as Massachusetts governor to cap greenhouse gases from power plants as part of a regional pact.

(snip)

"I believe that climate change is occurring – the reduction in the size of global ice caps is hard to ignore," Romney wrote in his 2010 book "No Apologies: The Case for American Greatness." "I also believe that human activity is a contributing factor."

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich may have the hardest job explaining himself thanks to a 2008 TV commercial sponsored by Gore's Repower America campaign. Gingrich and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) sit on a couch outside the Capitol and declare that while they don't often agree on issues, "we do agree our country must take action to address climate change."

Oh,Democrats like FDR were not leftists?

Reagan was a Democrat then.

But then most ALL of Hollywood was as well—probably a requirement even then.

No FDR was not a “leftist”. Not as we know it today. FDR loved his country (unlike the left) and honestly thought New Deal programs would solve legitimate problems the country had. Indeed in the short term they did. Long term they were a disaster made far, far worse by LBJ’s Great Society. Hindsight is 20/20 though and I’m not going to call FDR a leftist. Reagan, when he was president, called FDR the greatest president of his lifetime. Don’t like it? Take it up with President Reagan.

Palin’s response to Gwen Ifill’s question on carbon caps in the VP debate is more indicative of Palin’s flip flop on cap and tax than the quotes in the article cited here.

Palin was for carbon caps before she was against them.

Sorry Pal, but FDR tried to pack the Supreme Court with Liberal Judges to circumvent the legislature.

This man heaped the beginnings of socialism on this country. So please spare us the “FDR loved his country...” crap.

What Palin said is not enough to convict her of globalwarmingism. To do that, you’d need a lot more than a single ambiguous statement. And some policy evidence.

The purpose of this entire article is to try to discredit Palin in the eyes of conservatives by making up more lies.

Not working.

PDS?

Just days after McCain picked her as his running mate, Palin told ABC News she believes human activities "certainly can be contributing to the issue of global warming, climate change" and that "we've got to do something about it, and we have to make sure that we're doing all we can to cut down on pollution."

So let me get this straight. If a politician says something one day and says something different the next it’s okay? Or does that rule apply only to Sarah Palin?
Nice try.
We knew the bottom line . . . was ultimately to shut down a lot of our development. And it didn’t make any sense because it was based on these global warming studies that now we’re seeing (is) a bunch of snake oil science.

...and honestly thought New Deal programs would solve legitimate problems the country had.

Utter BS. FDR and his leftist advisors saw a path to ever increasing government dependence ensuring their political power for generations.

"PDS?"

That's funny but the argument that any criticism of Sarah Palin is "PDS" is getting more than a bit old. Sorry to tell you this but she is not God and if she deserves criticism she's going to get it. Unless of course you think she is God?

If a politician says something one day and says something different the next it’s okay?

It COULD be; if they then don't turn around and repeat what they said the FIRST day!

You were shown on this thread by several FReepers
as having been disingenuous on this matter.

In return, you have been evasive, in many ways,
but never answer.

YOU have PDS, FRiend.

“Palin – who has since referred to global warming as “snake oil science”

Yes! I loved her for that! She also is quoted in the article as saying something I wholeheartedly agree with: " ... we have to make sure that we're doing all we can to cut down on pollution."

Like all other living things on this earth, we have an impact on our environment just by being here, stone-age or industrial. Third-world people live in their own mess. First-world people clean up after themselves.

From http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Vote2008/story?id=5778018&page=1

“Do you still believe that global warming is not man made?” Gibson asked Palin.

“I believe that man’s activities certainly can be contributing to the issue of global warming, climate change. Here in Alaska, the only arctic state in our Union, of course, we see the effects of climate change more so than any other area with ice pack melting. Regardless though of the reason for climate change, whether it’s entirely, wholly caused by man’s activities or is part of the cyclical nature of our planet — the warming and the cooling trends — regardless of that, John McCain and I agree that we gotta do something about it and we have to make sure that we’re doing all we can to cut down on pollution.”

An entire contextual quote is usually more informative than a selective one. This is hardly a rousing endorsement of global warming and certainly not one of Gore’s carbon credit scheme or of cap and trade.
