Give DREAM Act a vote this year
San Antonio Express ^ | December 31, 2010 | San Antonio Express

The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors, or DREAM Act, should be brought up for a vote before Congress goes home for the year.

Failure to do so will leave the 65,000 illegal immigrant children who will graduate from American high schools in the spring living in limbo unable to further their education, seek gainful employment or become productive, taxpaying members of society.

The DREAM Act would permit those who came to the U.S. before the age of 16 to attain U.S. citizenship if they joined the military, attend college for two years and have clean records.

The legislation has been embraced by the College Board, a group of 5,000 colleges and universities, who anticipate the legislation would boost the U.S. economy.

Opponents of the bill, however, view it as opening the door to more liberal immigration legislation. But not addressing the growing number of educated young illegal immigrants in this country, who want to repay the investment in their education, will not make them go away.

We need to deport or imprison ALL illegal aliens, including their anchor babies, seal/secure the border with a fence and wall, and have a lethal response for anyone trying to re-enter illegally.

Did you check the date? It's December 31. CONGRESS WENT HOME.

When Congress comes back Republicans own the House, and this time it's not "nice Republicans", but the "big meany Republicans". For them the DREAM ACT is that people go home to help out their own countries, and the sooner the better.

I would agree that this should come to a vote....but only if Congress and the President were doing their jobs.

But if they were doing their jobs, this wouldn’t be an issue.

Democrats know illegals vote for Democrats as they did in Nevada for Harry Reid, Boxer in California, Jerry Brown in California etc.

If we don’t deport illegals soon then the whole U.S. will be to the left of what California is now. This is the number one issue. Why don’t people see that?

Republicans including Scott Brown stopped the Dream act. Yet all I see here is bashing of Republicans and of Scott Brown who is solidly against Amnesty for illegals and has said so many times.

There is obviously an IQ bar...below which MSM journalists must be in order to write this ill-conceived tripe.

Those journalists who have the temerity to actually have intelligence are banned from the MSM and are doomed to work for Fox or the WSJ.

Bravo Foxtrot Delta.

The “embracement” of this gaggle of bedwetting thumbsuckers is reason enough to reject the wetDREAM Act out of hand as has already happened.

I'll bet it would also help stop "global warming" and find a cure for cancer. LOL! "Academia" once again proves that doing too many recreational drugs isn't good for you.

They've already furthered their education on the back of taxpayers. If they want to stay here so bad, why dont they apply for a green card the same way everyone else does ... and agree to reimburse their local govt for their k-12 schooling.

They promised to secure the border after the last amnesty, and haven’t done it yet. There should not be any more time wasted even talking about new amnesty legislation until that’s done.

Quoting from the editorial:

“The DREAM Act has been around for almost a decade and the number of people who would be eligible for citizenship under the bill continues to grow.”

That’s the biggest problem and it will become far worse if the DREAM Act is ever passed.

And never discussed by liberals like the author of this piece is the fact that the DREAM act would be step one in the creation of 40 million new Democrat voters!!!

The author is correct, only deporting them will make them go away.

Why would we want to give illegal aliens jobs when legal citizens are fighting against 10% + unemployment?!?

The left is not concerned with compassion for these people. They are only concerned with their future votes. They will do anything to keep themselves in permanent power.

The ‘College Board” is being very self-serving with their support of the DREAM Act.

Those fools are NOT paying for the education of these illegals——WE ARE.

Another example of spending OPM!!!

Every one of these ‘supporters’ of the DREAM ACT can KMA!!!

We are inundated with illegal intruders & gangs & leeches at every turn of the road.

GET THEM OUT OF THE USA!!!

Not the whole nation.
