Millions of folks are all aglow now that the Dont Ask, Dont Tell policy regarding gays in the military has been repealed. While that may be a good thing in some ways, there will be some fallout we can expect, that some folks havent thought of. And that wont be a good thing.
Folks who have read my blogs know that I supported the DADT policy, and thought it should remain. I dont see straight people walking around announcing they are heterosexual. I dont see the need for homosexuals to make such announcements. I dont know how that advances the military. Meanwhile, gays have served proudly.
I have also written that I have no objection with open gays in scores of functions within the military. However, thats different when it comes to the intimate quarters that prevail such as boot camp. Being an old timer with values that were ingrained during the Grease years, I would be uncomfortable sharing sleeping quarters, showers, etc., if Im aware that my shower partner is gay. I would bet that thousands of straight soldiers today feel the same.
That aside, heres what we can expect now that gays have a full and open voice in the U.S. armed forces.
1 Gays in the military, now open and legal, will be empowered to establish minority status organizations within to ensure their rights are not violated, similar to blacks and females.
2 If anyone says a derogatory word toward or about gays, they may be subjected to court martial for inciting hate speech.
3 If and when a superior, i.e. boot sergeant, screams and hollers at a recruit who he knows is gay, the sergeant may be accused and even disciplined of anti-gay behavior. Civil suits are not out of the question.
4 Will gays who are not promoted for legitimate reason file discrimination complaints and/or suits based solely on their sexuality. Will the Armed Services committees of congress now form statistical studies to ensure gays are being promoted at the same rate of heterosexuals? Will gays get promoted at a faster rate now, to make up for discrimination of the past?
5 Will an officers negative opinion about gays be an impediment to his getting promoted in the future?
6 What about gay partnership rights? Will they mirror marriage laws that apply to heterosexuals? Does the spouse of a married homosexual get an I.D. card, or qualify for dependent status? On base housing entitlements? Health care entitlements? Then again, what would be the definition of a legal partner?
7 Will homosexual Marines be allowed to date each other, hold hands while on duty and on base?
8 Will homosexual soldiers be assigned to countries where homosexuality is forbidden?
9 Will gays who are HIV positive be discharged? Could that be a service connected illness?
Sure, other countries have openly gay service members serving in their military. But those countries dont have the U.S. Constitution and its wake of liberalized interpretations, which have fostered law suits by the kazillions, especially by minority organizations on constant watch to demand equal rights.
I would suggest the items listed above are but the tip of the proverbial iceberg once this gets under way.
Whats most important now, is adjusting to reality. The law is changing, and people have to change with it.
It was President Bill Clinton, a very liberal Democrat, who first supported the DADT policy which went into effect during his administration. It was a good one, and it worked. It certainly did not mean that he or any other supporter of the policy was anti-gay.
I have a wonderful 23 year-old family relative who is bright, beautiful, cheery, exciting, and gay. I love her with all my heart, and she knows that.
But we must be aware of all the consequences of enacting new policies that are not in the best interest of the military armed forces, in general. And if its not in the best interest of our military, then its not in the best interest of national defense.
It must be a very sad and empty existence.
Your answer made me chuckle though, but the shame of airing private personal intimacies has long gone by the wayside.
I’m trying to decide if we were required to answer that way would it hurt or hinder our personal lifestyle or just make liars of all of us. Lord help us all.
Do you have a reference?
A great many (male) serial killers seem to focus on prostitutes, probably because they are vulnerable, but also because they are female.
Considering homosexual males consist of (at best) 3% of the population, these numbers are a tad bit high:

But then the homosexual lifestyle is known for it's violence:

LOL,point taken, and ignored. Who made you the final word on what goes up on the site? If you don't like what I have to say and how often I say it, ignore me as I will ignore you.
Wait and see if the 2011 high school grads bypass the recuiters office and if the 2007 enlistees refuse to re-up as their 1st hitch expires.
Your position seems very cheery and gay.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Iwould agree the number of homosexual serial killers appears to be high as a percentage of the population, but it’s still well below a majority.
And what would the "majority" consist of Sherman, Christians? No, the "majority" of serial killers, like homosexuals, are moral relativists that pick and choose their standard of morality.
But since we're on the topic of homosexuality, let's hear from an expert:
Homosexual Serial Murder Investigation
By Vernon J. Geberth, M.S., M.P.S.
Former Commander, Bronx Homicide, NYPD
Homosexual homicides are relatively common and may involve male victims killed by other males, or female victims, involved in some sort of lesbian relationship, who are killed by another female. Homosexual related homicides, like all sex-related homicides include, interpersonal violence-oriented disputes and assaults, killings that involve forced anal and/or oral sodomy, lust murders and other acts of sexual perversion, and serial killings. This article will address the subject of homosexual serial killers.
Homosexual Serial Killers in the U.S.
Homosexual serial murders involve sadomasochistic torture, lust murders, thrill killings, and child killings as well as robbery homicides which are homosexually-oriented. Homosexual serial killers can be loosely divided into three groups: (1) The homosexual serial killer, who exclusively targets other male homosexual victims, (2) The homosexual-oriented serial killer, who attacks heterosexual and homosexual victims, (3) The male pedophile homosexual serial killer, who attacks young males and boys.

No problem, you will have your wish if you just STFU. I note your use of the royal "We" and hold this out as proof you truly are the obnoxious as*hole you seem to be

I know exactly what the rules here are. It is your interpertation of them as they apply to my post which is wrong.
I speak from experience in this matter, past and current. The gays are worse off now as far as their experiences in the military then they were before. There will NOT be more gays enlisting but less and as for the gays believing they can prance around holding hands, a few private come to Jesus meetings with his barrack mates will end that.
If you are not happy about what I have to say then don’t read it anymore. You are exactly like the liberals you claim to oppose because you only want to allow your point of view discussed.
Why, because you feel that is what will happen?
Gays will become a protected class. The fact that you would be willing to take that risk with the military shows a passive acceptance and almost careless attitude about this subject that Free Republic is against.
Read about what women on ships has been like, and get back to me.
It will not be the “openess”, it will be the re-training of the troops and the “adjustment” of the promotional scales that will eventually pressure the straight personnel to exit the military or not enter, including the chiefs.
"Why, because you feel that is what will happen?
I don't "feel" anything, pal, I KNOW what is and will continue to happen. One of the reasons you come off as so clueless here is because you are trying to fit the military mind into that of a PC civilian. It won't work and the military can come out with all the regs it wants to to make the queers feel all warm and fuzzy in the military and not a one of these directives will prevent a gay who even is PERCEIVED to act inappropriately towards a hetero from getting the living crap beat out of him in a place and at a time when there will be no witnesses to support him when he whines to his commander.
If you had ever been in the military you would know this already and you would also know word spreads like wildfire on a base and it will soon get around to the others queers what is in store for them should they even think to exhibit and brag about their new found freedoms to "be themselves"
I was a US Naval Officer on a destroyer for 4 years. When gays in the upper ranks of the officer corp "come out" it will be hell. What if the XO is gay? Is he going to let wet blanket parties just happen? Believe me a gay XO will be protecting his young stash. This little drama will play out in private, but it WILL happen. The "funny" thing, everyone will know who the queers are, it will be their team against our team, all under the guise of Good Order and Discipline. Gay tolerance training will be mandatory.
My deceased husband was a Master Sergeant and I think he would agree with your statements about gays in the Army.
The problem is once institutionalized it becomes political. Not all the gays are going to be E-1’s. Are they going to hold a wet blanket party for nan O-5?
