I was a US Naval Officer on a destroyer for 4 years. When gays in the upper ranks of the officer corp "come out" it will be hell. What if the XO is gay? Is he going to let wet blanket parties just happen? Believe me a gay XO will be protecting his young stash. This little drama will play out in private, but it WILL happen. The "funny" thing, everyone will know who the queers are, it will be their team against our team, all under the guise of Good Order and Discipline. Gay tolerance training will be mandatory.
LOL, you really don't get it, do you? Just how many gays do you think are IN the military? They represent just about 3% of the overall population. Do you believe they are represented in greater numbers in the military? If so cite your source and link to it. And being an officer does NOT put you in touch with the enlisted men, it separates you.
How does your officer "not allow " wet blanket parties to happen? Is he going to camp out in the barrack where his queer butt buddy lives? For your info there already are regs against "wet blanket parties" or any other kind of violence between troops but it has never stopped it from happening. And what about the the guy your queer officer reports to? How is he going to take seeing one of his staff pursuing an agenda against heteros because a queer whines he is being mistreated and HAS NO WITNESSES?
You can subject the soldier to all the freakin diversity and sensitivity training you want to and if it changes the mind of 1% of the troops it means that 1% was leaning gay anyway.
If you were an officer then you ought to know the majority of the enlisted in the service are made up of blacks, Hispanics, southerners and mid westerners, the great majority of whom are strongly anti gay. The only sympathy the queers get would be from enlistees from the N.E and CA and that would be only those who aren't black or Hispanic, not a large number.
I repeat, the repeal of DADT is the very worst thing that ever could have happened to a gay. Expect the numbers of queer troops to decline by half over the next 5-10 years as they learn they will be more strongly rejected in the military then they ever would have thought.
