The incoming agriculture commissioner wants to remove paintings he considers "undesirable" that were meant to show the history of Georgia farming.
Commissioner-elect Gary Black told WXIA-TV that seven pictures in the lobby of the Agriculture Department in Atlanta will go into storage. The Republican takes office next month.
The paintings by George Beattie have been in the lobby for half a century. Two paintings depict slavery, which was allowed in Georgia until the practice was outlawed after the Civil War.
Another shows partially clothed American Indians.
Black said several scenes "are not acceptable today" and don't represent modern agriculture.
Atlanta sculptor George Beasley, a friend of the painter, said the artist tried to show the whole picture of Georgia farming. He said the work should remain on display.

I guess is you don’t like history just put in storage and hide it.
Looks like a couple DemonRATs surveying their plantation.
To be replaced with Andy Warhol’s silkscreen series depicting John Deere tractors.
Yes, Mr. Black, you are 100% correct. The paintings do not represent "modern agriculture".
Of course that MIGHT be because the painting are intended to depict the HISTORY of agriculture...
Maybe they should have paintings showing migrant farm workers.................
Slavery could well come back, and mostly at the hands of today's Democrat party.
That would be as realistic as the John Deere tractors, wouldn’t it?
Those denying or refusing history will be doomed to repeating it.
IMHO...many government don’t want those image of slavery reminding them of the state they have cast their modern citizenry.
“To be replaced with Andy Warhols silkscreen series depicting John Deere tractors.”
Or seven pics of BHO in varying muslim garb.

Many will complain of the bareness on the walls where these historic paintings once hung. After a long and tensional process, a commission / work study group will submit their findings and hire an artist to perform new works.
Four years pass and the replacement paintings are almost complete. The new governor elect with a taste for art and history will request the old paintings be put back on display.
Total cost 3.1 million
God I love this country !
