I didn’t know about the local show angle. I do try to catch the local special feature show when I am home, which comes on right before Oprah. It’s very informative about what we consider events (when is the baby tiger going to be released for viewing?), they interview small business owners who get publicity for their goods and services, and occasionally you get to see some one you know on TV.
For girl talk, I jumped to Wendy Williams years ago.

And, its just been reported that Oprah is #1 for the year of 2010 in earnings. $315 million a year. Can you imagine that lard making that kind of money for doing nothing?
I can’t for the life of me understand her appeal. She puts me in a barf mood. She’s right up there with Joy Behar as far as I’m concerned.

Maybe the FEC should be notified. Ophra said in that Parade article that she will “absolutely” support Nobama for reelection.

this was no surprise to me and most people.
Years ago, Oprah was different. Watch tapes of her early shows from the 80s, and she comes across as someone the viewer could relate to, sincere and honest, with her own insecurities.
But that Oprah disappeared years ago, under the weight of celebrity and all that money. I remember reading the “memo” for her planned visit to an antiques dealer in Washington, D.C., part of a shopping expedition to fill her newest mansion. “Oprah” is referred to in the third person, as in “Oprah does not climb stairs.” (Guess lifting all that lard up a few flights spoils her buying binge). The memo was prepared by a staffer, but it seemed to equate Oprah with visiting royalty or some sort of demi-god.
I think her worship of Obama was the last straw for many viewers. “Judge Judy” is cleaning her clock in the ratings and as I noted previously, there was no way King World (her syndicator) and the local stations were going to pony up for another contract on the scale of her current deal. So, she’s moved on to robbing the bank at Discovery.
One final thought: I’m guessing that a good chunk of Oprah’s new cable deal is based on her share of advertising on the new network. In a 500-plus cable universe, it’s unlikely that OWN will challenge the big channels like USA, Fox News, Lifetime, etc., for several years—if it ever does. So, I don’t think Oprah will be making $315 million a year at Discovery. Hope she’s been saving her money.
THe PWN network will not be seen in my house. I will personally remove the channel from the lineup on my TV sets. No Problemo.
