Barack Obama is down but not out.
You could tell as much from the contrast between his petulant post- election press conference and his peppy pre-Christmas press conference. In the former, he was crabby about accepting Republicans' demands that income-tax rates on all taxpayers not be raised. In the latter, he was celebrating the lame-duck Congress' acceptance of his stands on the New START treaty, repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and even the previously reviled tax deal.
Obama has obviously figured out that Americans prefer to see their president describe the glass as half full rather than half empty. That's a good lesson for him, and for Republicans as well, especially those who believe that the Obama Democrats' shellacking in the midterms means that Obama himself will definitely lose in 2012.
History should provide some caution for these folks. Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush saw their parties fare pretty well in their midterm elections, but they were defeated for re-election anyway.
In contrast, pundits thought that Ronald Reagan's Republicans took a shellacking in 1982 (actually, about half their losses resulted from redistricting) and Bill Clinton's Democrats definitely did in 1994. But both the 40th and 42nd presidents were resoundingly re-elected, carrying 49 and 31 states.
Several factors will likely work less strongly against Obama in 2012 than against the Obama Democrats in 2010. Turnout will be different, for one thing. We may see again the record turnout of blacks we saw in 2008. Young people, who pretty much shunned the polls in the midterms, may turn out and vote -- though the 34-point margin they gave to Obama was halved to 17 points for congressional Democrats in 2010.

What he fails to mention is that too many “Conservatives” will help “Bam” across the finish line.

If we keep talking like losers, we’ll BE losers.
They are trying to ignore the election results as if it did not happen. Washington D.C. is going to end up like Hitlers Bunker in the end or like Custers Last Stand. They will be the last to realize the rest of the country has left them.
That’s right-—when they demonstrate the kind of weakness they did in the lame duck they surely will.
I usually agree with “most” of Barone’s assessments - he’s far smarter than I about politics.........but.......this time I don’t agree with him at all. He claims “most Americans like Obama” that he’s likable. Not true Barone, a LOT of us despise him and what he’s trying very hard to do to our country. AND the color of his skin has nothing to do with it - I wouldn’t like nor trust him if he was white, red or purple. The man hates America and it shows.
Thanks LLS - your assessment of Barrone being an inside the Beltway thinker are right on target. What “they” still don’t realize is the great American giant has been awakened -— we no longer need them to tell us what to think or do.
If dealing with reality makes ME sound like a loser, so be it. I refuse to live in the “Democrat vs. Republican” world. This last couple elections has proven to me that they’re in cahoots with one another. The Republican party refuses to be the “checks and balances” of the party in power. They’re all in Washington and they don’t give a rats rear end what you or I say on a political forum.
People in this country are sick of RINO’s who vote 99% of the time with Democrats. What is your solution to that?
Obama thinks his best chance is to go into the campaign mode and not the governing mode for the next two years. Then when anything bad happens he can just blame it on the Repub’s and in the meantime getting all the leftists Marxists rallied around him for 2012.
The reports of him reading Ronald Reagan’s book support this. He thinks he can talk over the MSM and directly to the people.
Stop blindly following the party label.
Barone surely spends most of his time in the Northeast corridor where such attitudes about Hussein are still prevalent and where it is still “bad form” to say much critical about him.
The rest of the country isn’t so inclined to agree but when you look at the demographics of America these days, I think it’s fair to argue that 0’s floor of support isn’t going to be much lower than 45%. That includes the huge percentage of the population which has become dependent on government and believes that the ‘Rats protect their government checks (big mistake!), 90% of blacks, adolescents both in chronology and mentality, elitist libs, and the hardcore left. Add them all together and the ‘Rats fall just short of a majority. So the right’s task in 2012 is going to be a difficult challenge-—there is an awful lot to overcome.
Dont see how Bammy loses in 2012.
He has been the best thing for DC since the New Deal. More power has accrued to DC in 2 years of Bammy...than in the previous 234 years put together. Consequently the RinoCrat Oligarchy will be behind him 100%.
He has gifted away more of our treasure to his henchmen and supporters than all other presidents in history put together. That represents a reservoir of goodwill that will find absolutely NO major players in US or International powers on the other side of him in 2012.
Unless there is an absolutely unprecedented grass roots, highly motivated groundswell in Flyover Country that generates hereto for unseen numbers of voters AND the institutional corruption of the vote that characterizes many Red States suffering Blue representation is dealt with ahead of time, he will be insurmountable.
Hell, I’m not so sure we’ll even have a national election in 2012. Obozo knows he has a nasty fight on his hands, so what can stop him from creating another bogus “crisis” and declaring martial law?
Get out of Washington and talk to some real people Mike.
This theory overlooks the TEA parties.
Absolutely.

2) EVERYTHING bad that has happened or will happen, can be blamed on obama and the dims without question... the problem is that the republican party machine has issued orders not to fight back with the truth.
3) That is why if the republicans do not get it together quickly, then they go the way of the Whigs and the Tea Party will do what the republicans refuse to do... and THE TEA PARTY will become the true 2nd party.
LLS
You nailed it!
