Jackie Gingrich Cushman said that her father Newt Gingrich is more intent that ever on running for President in 2012. Gingrich has said that he will announce his decision on running in February or March.
Hes very serious. Hes much more serious than he ever has been. And I can tell that because we actually sat down -- just the two of us -- for two hours recently. And I dont think thats happened since I had children, said Cushman.
Newt Gingrich wrote the forward to his daughters new book, The Essential American: 25 Documents and Speeches Every American Should Own, which highlights the great documents and speeches in our nations history
I asked Cushman what about the country today has made her father more serious than every before about running for President.
I think hes very concerned because when you get down to the core argument-- when you talk about taxes, when you talk about where we are -- the fundamental difference is that conservatives believe that God gave people rights and we loan them to the government. They believe, as Calvin Coolidge did, that its the people money, and the government is supposed to spend it as wisely as possible.
If you look at the language of President Obama and his administration, they really believe that its the government's money. They really believe that they can solve all those problems from Washington. That is a huge, fundamental difference.
As a country we have to come to grips with, its not just partisan politics. Iits not just an arguing about tax cuts. We have a fundamental disconnect about how this country should operate, said Cushman of her fathers perspective.
Cushman, a syndicated columnist and the author, said that her father asked her if she wanted him to run. She told him that it was his decision to make. Its up to him. But of course I would support him. Ive always helped him in his campaigns ever since I was six [years old], so its been a long, long time.
All of my life, hes always done what he has thought was best for our country. And I think that hell take all of that into consideration. So well see in February or March, said Cushman.
And I’m very serious when I tell Newt to ‘Kiss My Ass’.
He may be serious but his candidacy is a joke. Some people just don’t know when to let go.
FUNG - LOL - I totally agree.
What a wimp this guy is. He got run out of town by the liberal media, and converted into a progressive to get back into the arena. ( see climate change )
Oh what a mess it’s going to be in 2012!
You managed to redirect the mandate of the class of '94 from their elected mission of reducing the size of the FedGov Beast into your ridiculous and emasculated 'contract' on America, preserving the Elite and the status quo.
Go write another sappy book or something.
You stinking fraud, you are as unwelcome as turd in a punchbowl.
And I am serious about NOT voting for him!
At least he can speak.
Not boring.
Idea man.
That’s about the limit of my pro-Newt list.
I posted on a recent thread that I saw ONE and only ONE upside if he ran, which is it would help the process in terms of public debate. And one of the things that should happen in a GOP debate is that Newt should be asked to explain himself about global warming and the rest. Oh, there’s so much there he needs to “’splain”, as Ricky used to demand of Lucy.
Instead of just slinking off somewhere, I think he should stand up and be confronted...
Any man who cant manage 3 marriages isnt fit to run a country.
Oh, that's good....I needed a belly laugh today..
And I am very serious about opposing him= a draw
I wouldn’t mind Newt as an advisor or even real cabinet position. He’s smart and he’s good at explaining ideas.
Newt has way too much baggage- his time has come and gone as far as POTUS goes.
The areas that he drivs me nuts on are Global Warming (27 degrees in my Central Florida backyard last night) and ILLEGAL immigration.
Not a problem if your a dem?
Probably wife no. 1 (who was also named Jackie).
Newt's problem is a "gravitas" thing. He's way too willing to tell you what he thinks, rather than to get things done. Somebody once said that he thought becoming an independent political commentator was a step up from being Speaker of the House. You can't think that way and get into the White House. You can't be so interested in cornering reporters to show them how smart you are and be an effective administrator.
But one thing I came across on the net: Newt isn't angling so much for the presidency as a role in the next Republican president's administration. He's getting his name out there now, so that he can have the inside track on a Cabinet or White House position after Obama leaves. An interesting theory.
“.....,he’s always done what he has thought was best for our country.”
Is that why he had a praise Clinton fest, instead of a debate of issues on TV or was that to protect Newt’s secret affair?

He's foolish to believe he has a hope in hell of winning so much as a single primary.
I don't care how much Hannity loves him, he's a sleaze.
I like Gingrich in a lot of ways, but the Dems targeted him and knocked him back years ago and he hasn’t been the same since.
Still, having him run might not be a bad idea, because it might shake out a good candidate. If we have only an “annointed” candidate, we’ll have Romney, who is apparently teh RINO favorite and the only one I wouldn’t vote for under any circumstances.
But if we have a lively, active field of candidates, we’ll have real competition and real alternatives, and I think this will be good for us.
We’re doomed.
PING!
