US Rep. Conyers reimburses for son's vehicle use
US Rep. Conyers reimburses $5,682 for son's unofficial use of government Escalade in Detroit
On Thursday December 23, 2010, 12:54 pm EST
DETROIT (AP) -- Taxpayers have been repaid for the time Detroit Congressman John Conyers' son spent using a government vehicle.
The U.S. Treasury Department was reimbursed $5,682, the House Judiciary chair said in a statement Wednesday.
Conyers said the amount was based on the daily use of the Cadillac Escalade by his 20-year-old son, John Conyers III, over the Thanksgiving holiday. He announced that his son used the sport utility vehicle after a report of a theft from the Escalade registered in the name of Conyers' congressional district.
His son reported two laptops worth $1,100 each and $27,500 worth of concert tickets stolen from the parked vehicle, according to Detroit police.
Conyers said it's unlikely that the amount of time his son used the vehicle was as high as the amount given to the Treasury Department, but he wanted to be "sure that there is no cost to the taxpayers whatsoever for any possible non-official use of the car."
**SNIP**
The police probe into the theft from the Escalade continues. None of the stolen items were government property, Conyers said.

So help me decide:
1) Is the little CONyers boy scamming the insurance company and the stolen items don't exist, or
2)Is our little entreprenuer scalping concert tickets for a living?
If 2) is true, how come he can afford $27,500 in concert tickets but doesn't have his OWN car?
And while I'm asking, I'd like to ask the Congressman how many companies let ANYONE BESIDES THE EMPLOYEE have use of a company car?
Very good questions, especially the second. The entire government is out of control.
Curious how Democrats ‘reimburse for’ and Republicans ‘get convicted of’.
Once a scumbag grifter, always a scumbag grifter.
So how did junior get the keys? Steal ‘em out of Dad’s pants? Didn’t Dad notice his car was missing for days?
I want to see conyers hanged for treason, and the idiots in his district stripped of the federal voting franchise.
Wonder which IRS staffer has the balls to check this family’s returns....
Why does any congress critter have a government provided vehicle? Damned elitists...
When is Obama going to reimburse us for all his and his wife’s vacations?
If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
It is amazing how many expensive SUVs are used by the Government around here in the DC area

Few years back DC Agencies ‘needed’ 4 wheel drive vehicles so they could ‘take care of their charges’ in bad weather.
Only problem here is that if you get more than 1” of snow, schools are shut down and Govt Employees are given the day off.
..yes, I am exaggerating a ‘little’ bit, but the gist is true- - - During a ‘snow storm’, you could drive by the lots on N Capitol St and see the Broncos and other 4WD parked on the hill...
How did Conyers get so rich? Hasnt he been a govt employee all his life?

I believe one question answers the other.
He’s been in Congress since ‘65 and has stayed long past his expiration date.
Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!!
I could not get a used (sent to DRMO) 4-Wheel Drive truck for my Safety Office while stationed at a northern tier base. SAC HQ told me to just borrow one if I needed it then when we had a chopper crash in the dead of winter I could not get a single office to loan one to me to get to the crash site and yet I "owned" the site.
A few years later I stationed in DC and my Agency had several brand new SUVs parked in the lot. Whenever we had snow the entire Agency shut down except for the JNACC office. Those trucks were never used in 4-wheel drive.
Actually his is not rich. He is too stupid to steal. His wife had a gubment lawyer at her trial because Johnny could not afford one. But he can afford a Caddy. HMMM!
DETROIT (WJBK) John Conyers III, 20, told police two Apple MacBooks, valued at $1,100 apiece, and more than $27,000 worth of concert tickets to the Fillmore were stolen out of a burgundy 2010 Cadillac Escalade registered to the 14th Congressional District.
FOX 2 is also working to get details on what the concert tickets were for and if the stolen laptops had any sensitive government information.
The police report says the vehicle was parked at Brush Street and Congress around 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 24. When Conyers returned around 12:30 a.m., he noticed scratches on the side door and items scattered throughout the interior.
...........the incident brings into question why the son of a congressman was driving a registered government vehicle. "I don't know of a single person in congress in the 16 years I was there who had to put vehicle titles in the name of the government," former U.S. Rep. Joe Knollenberg tells FOX 2.
According to the U.S. General Services Administration Web site , if an employee allows an unauthorized person to use a government vehicle, that employee could be suspended or fired. "I would tell you that they better use this (vehicle) just for the purpose of what they had been required to do," said Knollenberg. "Not to get into the hands of a relative or a friend or whatever."
Currently, there is no word on why John Conyers III was driving the vehicle. A spokesperson for the congressman's office tells FOX 2 she will get back to us on the allegations.
Conyers has been a member of the U.S. House since 1965. His wife, Monica, is serving a 37-month federal prison sentence for corruption after pleading guilty last year to a bribery scheme involving her vote on the Detroit City Council in favor of a sludge-hauling contract.

Conyers Has Driver's License Suspended After Bounced Check

Rep. John Conyers, the powerful chairman of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee, had his driver's license suspended for a month this summer when a check he used to pay the renewal fee bounced, according to Michigan driving records obtained by The Associated Press.
The 81-year-old Detroit Democrat tried to renew his license at a secretary of state branch office on Feb. 2, the records show. Months later, state officials determined the bank account tied to the check had insufficient funds, and his license was suspended on June 30. Conyers eventually paid the fee, and his suspension was lifted July 26.
Asked for an explanation, Conyers' Detroit district office responded with a written statement that said "a check was inadvertently written to renew the chairman's driver's license from an account that had been recently closed. "As a result his driver's license was suspended," the statement said. "Immediately upon learning of this, a replacement cashier's check was provided, and his driver's license was immediately reinstated." (Excerpt) Read more at foxnews.com ...
——How did Conyers get so rich?——
He is black. He is corrupt. He is a congressman
Because it helps to project an image of black pride and success (however illegitimate) in such a way that we too should be proud?...
Dont you feel proud that some of our most beloved congressmen and women ride around in such cool comfort? Dont you admire how cool and important they must be and how good they look?
Dont be jealous of their success, though. Rather, lets all be proud together, as a community, that we are being represented in this way. Let’s not interfere in their affairs as they strive to make the world a better place for us all...
For the better they look the better we should feel about them and ourselves when we vote for them again and again.
Hows that for a load of bullsh*t?
